- 3. In this presentation we are going to talk about somethings related with the sound in computers: -Audio devicessome examples may be microphones, headphones or loud speakers. -Sound formatssome examples may be wav, midi or aiff. -Codecscan be loss codecs or lossless codecs.
- 4. Audio devices allow you to play or record audio, which can be sounds, music, speech, etc. Audio input devices allow a user to send audio signals to a computer. Devices such as microphones allow users to speak to the computer in order to record a voice message. Audio output devices are those that attache to a computer to play sound, such as music or speech. The term can also refer to a computer sound card. Some examples of audio devices are: -microphones (Device that converts soundbin air into an electrical signal) -loud speakers devices that produces sound in response to an electrical audio signal input) -sound cards (expansion card or integrated circuit that provides a computer with the ability to produce sounds that can be heard by the user) -sound ports (Jack to which an audio device such as loud speaker head phone or microphone can be connected) -headphones devices that allow a user to listen to the desired sound that the user wants to hear such as music, a tape recording…
- 5. CODECS: A codec is a device or computer program capable of encoding or decoding a digital data or signal. It encodes for transmission, storage or encryption, or decodes it for playback or editing. LOSS CODECS: › Most codecs are lossy, to achieve the smallest possible size of the target file. LOSSLESS CODECS: › There are also lossless codecs, but in most practical applications, for an almost imperceptible increase in quality is not worth a considerable increase in data size.
- 6. A sound file format is used for storing digital audio data on a computer system. Some examples are WAV (Waveform Audio File Format): It is a Microsoft and IBM audio file format standard for storing an audio bit stream on PCs. MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface): It is the standard electronic language "spoken" between electronic instruments and the computerized devices which control them during performances. AIFF (Audio Interchange File Format): It is an audio file format standard used for storing sound data for personal computers and other electronic audio devices. CDA. It is a file extension for a CD Audio shortcut file format. Used by Microsoft Windows to refer to audio tracks on a CD, a CDA file doesn’t contain audio but is simply a shortcut to the tracks on an audio disc. MP3 (MPEG-1 or MPEG-2 Audio Layer III): It is an encoding format for digital audio which uses a form of lossy data compression. WMA (Windows Media Audio): It is an audio data compression technology developed by Microsoft. AUP: It is a file extension for a project file used by Audacity audio software.
