Audiovisual education is educational instruction which uses sight and hearing to stimulate and enhance a learning experience. The advancements of television and multimedia computer programs have greatly effected audiovisual education, expanding its impact on many educational experiences at all levels. Return to Menu
Educational television programs and videos have been created to help supplement instructional time. Multimedia computer programs have given students the opportunity to now take control of their learning by creating their own materials as well as learning programs which they can utilize to enhance their education. Photographic slides, films, DVDs, computers, and television are just a few audio visual machines that can be utilized to enhance education. Return to Menu
I think audiovisual education can be a great tool to enhance education. On the other hand, I also think that teacher instruction is equally important. By using a variety of teaching methods, such as the ones listed in this source, students with their different preferred learning types can all be reached. Return to Menu
Audiovisual education began in the 1920s when film technology was beginning to rapidly emerge. A visual instruction movement emerged and included in that was the use of audiovisuals which were to aid teachers in the classroom. As digital technology and other advances emerged from the 1950s to the present, the use of different media and technologies have become increasingly popular in schools. Return to Menu
Research has showed that learning is based on perception. Perception is when the senses gain information from the environment. In addition, learning is most effective when two or more senses are being used simultaneously to receive information. For example, using vision and hearing to learn something is believed to be more effective than just seeing something. These findings show that the use of audiovisuals are an effective method for students to achieve greater knowledge. Return to Menu
Since audiovisual technology was first introduced, its effect on education has shown to be highly effective. Due to the use of multiple senses, audiovisual educational technologies are a great way to enhance students’ educational experiences. Return to Menu
This website offers advice to help make the use of visual aids, including the use of audiovisual aids, effective when used in presentations. It is important that even the audiovisual aids used in education not have overly distracting images or information. Before Presentations: 1. Make sure the tape is rewound, at the starting point, or be sure the DVD is free of scratches. 2. Make sure the playback machine and the monitor are playing properly. Check that everything is working properly before the session so you may replace the machine if it is not working properly. 3. Be sure to check audio level and contrast. 4. Lights can be dimmed but do not turn them off completely.    During Presentation: 1. Explain what the purpose of the tape/DVD is before playing it. 2. Show interest in the tape/DVD by watching it enthusiastically. 3. Summarize the main points for the audience after the tape/DVD has been shown. Return to Menu
The Visual Aids website recommends, “Don't make your Visual Aids visual distractions (Visual Aids).” I think it is extremely important to recognize when a visual aid does not enhance the learning experience. If it is not helping, then it should not be utilized. Only visual aids which are not distracting and support the information being presented should be used for a presentation when teaching. Return to Menu

It is important to use a variety of teaching methods to reach all students with their varying learning preferences. Also be sure to only utilize audiovisual aids which will not distract from students’ learning experiences. Return to Menu
