• Ayurveda, is the ancient and foremost practiced
medicine in India
• It is also called Medicine of the East/ Herbal Medicine
• It has rich glory of 5000 years of history
• In India, BAMS is the graduate degree permitted by
Government and NCISM(National Commission for Indian
System of Medicine), formerly CCIM, is the granting
authority.
• Ayurveda is now popular after post covid 19.
• Around 247 Ayurveda colleges are functioning in India.
Scopes & Services
• Ayurveda is the next mostly sought alternate medicine course to MBBS,
along with Homeopathy,Unani & Naturopathy.
• It has excellent academic & research scope
• BAMS graduate can join Govt. service as Medical Officer or do research in
medicinal plants or can start own Ayurveda hospital after completion of
course.
• BAMS Graduate can study MD/MS (Ayurveda), join as Faculty in Ayurveda
College or do Research in various Govt. organizations. Central Government
recently permitted to practice Surgery for PG degree Ayurveda doctors.
• Also can start Pharmacy company, provide employment and sell medicines
also.
• Allied fields like Medical Transcription, Medical Coding, Medical Billing &
Insurance show a great demand for BAMS Graduates.
How to Start Ayurved College ?
• Permission from NCISM – LOA(Letter of Application),
LOI(Letter of Inspection),
LOP(Letter of Permission)
• Intake capacity – 2 slabs 1-60 or 61-100 seats
• LAND(100 seats) – 3500 sq.meters (Hospital)
• 4000 sq.meters (College)
• Additionally Herbal Garden, Accomodation for Hospital &
Teaching staff, Indoor & Outdoor games facility, Parking space,
Space for civil & Electrical works& services are provided.
Requirements - Hospital
• Hospital starts functioning with 1:1 ratio of students &
beds. For 100 students, 100 beds to be maintained.
• Minimum of 25% i.e. 40 beds should be patient
occupied on all days in a year.
• For OPD services, a ratio of 1:2 of students & patients
to be maintained.
• Minimum 200 OP patients to be shown per day on all
days in a year.
• Records to be maintained as web based Computerised
Central Registration for both OPD & IPD

Recruitment of Teachers
• Before admission of the first batch of students, the college shall have-
• (i) at the time of submission of application, there shall be a fully developed hospital building as specified regulations 4 and 5
with functional Ayurveda hospital prior two years from the date of application, having appropriate number of beds, bed
occupancy and Out-Patient Department attendance corresponding to the annual students intake capacity as specified in the
sub-regulation (2) of regulation ;
• (ii) all teachers with the requisite qualifications as specified in Regulation 8 and non-teaching staff as specified in Schedule-
VI, which are required for first professional year of teaching and training shall be appointed, and
wherever there is shortfall of Professors, equal number of Readers shall be appointed;
• (iii) minimum one specialist doctor or one clinical teacher in each of Kayachikitsa, Panchakarma, Shalya, Shalakya, Prasuti
evam Stri Roga, Kaumarbhritya appointed for operating the teaching hospital and the experience of specialist doctor or
clinical teacher shall be considered as a teacher from the date of appointment of the specialist doctor or two years prior to
submission of application by the applicant to the submission of application by the applicant to the Central Government to
establish a college whichever is lesser;

Addl. Details
Note: -
(1) For hospital with more than sixty beds, two incumbents each as
Resident Medical Officers, Resident Surgical Officers, Assistant Matrons
and Pharmacists shall be additionally required.
(2) The hospital shall be equipped with adequate provision of security, civil
and electrical, sanitation, dietary and canteen, laundry and waste
incineration and disposal services.
(3) Essential duty staff and services shall be available round the clock.
(4) Services of the non-technical staff like Peon, Attendant, Sweeper,
Guards, Washer man, Gardener and Cook etc. may be obtained by
outsourcing.
(5) For conditional permission, minimum eighty per cent. of above hospital
staff shall be required.
