This document provides an overview of mechanics, which is divided into static bodies (bodies at rest) and moving bodies. Static body mechanics analyzes rigid bodies at rest using equations of equilibrium. Moving body mechanics, also called kinematics or kinetics, can analyze motion using equations of displacement, velocity, acceleration derived from basic physics definitions. Kinetics specifically analyzes motion using Newton's laws of motion and the concept of conservation of energy. Mechanics principles can be applied to analyze machines and different types of motion.
