This document discusses using the Assassin's Creed video game franchise to teach history in the classroom. It begins by outlining the challenges of using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) games, such as limited technology resources and restrictions from IT departments. It then examines how the Assassin's Creed games correspond to different historical time periods and topics in the curriculum. Potential ways to utilize the games are explored, such as student-created machinima videos or focusing on literacy and numeracy skills. However, it is acknowledged that the games present a fictionalized history and should not be considered a replacement for traditional lessons.
