Beyond Visibility
How to Build a Supply Chain That Thinks
Visibility.
Everyone wants it. But what is it?
Ultimately, visibility is
about knowledge.
Knowing what happened,
what’s happening, and
what’s going to happen.
Some kinds of knowledge are easy to come by.
But often, the most important knowledge is
the hardest to find.
When you’re managing a
complex, global,
multi-modal supply chain,
visibility is everything.
It’s the power to know the
location and condition of
everything, everywhere.
In the past, knowledge has been limited by
access to data and the ability to turn that
data into actionable insight.
But today, a handful of
technological advances have
finally come together enabling managers
to track every component, from source to
arrival in the hands of the end consumer.
Don’t miss the boat!
In our new white paper, we explore how
modern supply chains can achieve true
visibility, predicting and eliminating
problems before they occur.

Build a Supply Chain That Thinks today.
A Bit of History:
In 1792, Napoleon
pioneered the
world’s first real-time
information network:
a system of 500 relay
towers transmitting
data across Europe
via visual code.
200 years later, RFID was all the rage. Everyone from
Wal-Mart to the U.S. Army tried RFID-based tracking
systems to gain visibility into their supply chains.
But these systems were expensive and labor-intensive,
and they struggled with the torrents of data
produced by a global supply chain.
But today, new technologies are enabling previously
impossible levels of insight into the supply chain.
Innovations in sensor technology are enabling
devices with lower power needs
and longer lifetimes.
Cellular networks span the entire
globe, connecting over 5 billion
users and counting.
Most importantly, big data technology enables us to analyze
and draw insights from the massive amounts of data
generated by modern supply chains.
Leveraging these technologies to
draw real-time actionable insights
is giving early adopters a competitive
edge, enabling the use of Lean and
Six Sigma principles in concert.
End-to-end
visibility means
you can
simultaneously
reduce waste
and implement
preventative
measures based
on actual data
and predictive
analytics.
We call this the
COGNITIVE SUPPLY CHAIN.
It facilitates exact timing of deliveries and
proactive responses to delays across
complex, global supply chains.
“No matter where our goods
are, we can locate them,
identify how they’re treated
on the inbound or
outbound chain, and
automate many
transactions along the
delivery chain.”
-- Karl Kirschenhofer
VP Ops Venture, Nokia
The Cognitive Supply Chain is changing the game in logistics.
It’s impacting every part of the modern enterprise, and
enabling us to go Beyond Visibility.
