This document presents a case study on bio-medical image segmentation using the marker controlled watershed algorithm, which aims to address the issue of over-segmentation in images. The authors discuss various image segmentation methods, particularly focusing on the superiority of the watershed algorithm combined with morphological operations and marker control for improved accuracy. Results from applying the proposed algorithm to MRI and mammogram images demonstrate its effectiveness in comparison to conventional methods, suggesting a pathway for future enhancements in image quality for diagnostic purposes.
