Systems
Week 1
 With the fast development of E-commerce, the
amount of information needed has increased
dramatically.
 The stored data on a database can be used to
track business activities, customer information,
and inventory.
 When a specific piece of information is needed, a
utility provided by the database is available to
query the data.
 A database can be used to categorize and sort
raw data so that it is easier to retrieve them later.
 Data stored in the database can also be used to
analyze customer behavior, predict future sales
and business patterns, and then help make
Database Management System
(DBMS)
 A DBMS is a software package used to store,
manage, and analyze data.
 There are all sorts of DBMSs. Some of them
can handle small amounts of data but are very
user friendly, and even a nonprofessional can
handle them.
An enterprise-level DBMS often includes the
following database managing tools:
 Database configuration
 Database administration
 Executing query operations
 Creating database components
 Defining relationships among database components
 Data transformation
 Debugging
 Networking assistant utilities for a client/server environment
