Published US Patent Application - US2015/0142534 A1 - Sea Smart and ParkSmart ParkSmart It is estimated that an average of approximately: US$600m per annum is lost in wasted time and fuel. 30% of all urban traffic consist of drivers searching for places to park. 55 hours per annum are wasted by each driver searching for a place to park. ParkSmart enables vehicle on-street and off-street reservation/pre-booking of parking spaces. The main problem with parking space availability is the fact that it can change several times between time of checking and time of arrival at the parking space location. ParkSmart enables on-street & off-street parking spaces to be pre-booked/reserved. All payment/penalty transactions take place on the ParkSmart platform. It includes incentives and penalties, so parking administration costs can be reduced and tow trucks can be utilised more efficiently. ParkSmart also negates the need for parking space road markings and related street furniture. At time of ParkSmart installation, onboard vehicle navigation devices or GPS enabled smartphones are uploaded with information, including the vehicle model & dimensions. These details can only be amended with high level permissions from system operators. ParkSmart enables real time communication between ParkSmart registered vehicle devices. When combined with CCTV (current CCTV, as well as additional CCTV, where needed), as well as controllers of the parking spaces (a ParkSmart integrated management system would be setup for the controllers) and vehicle licensing agencies, ParkSmart is designed to enable more efficient and environmentally friendly vehicle parking. ParkSmart enables more precise charging depending upon factors, including the size of each vehicle, time of the day and any other variables, which are desired by the organisations & people responsible for the on-street and off-street parking. Pricing can be programmed to take into account as many additional factors as the controllers wish to add, such as cheaper parking for more fuel efficient vehicles, as well as those vehicles, which take up less parking space. When parking spaces are booked, ParkSmart calculates available space, taking into account the size of currently booked vehicles, as well as duration of each currently booked parking. From the driver’s point of view, ParkSmart would be
- 2. easy to use, as the driver would use the ParkSmart enabled navigation devices, as normal, with the additional option of selecting the parking space option, as well as the amount of time the parking space is needed, and ParkSmart can automatically book the available parking space, which is as near as possible to the destination point. The driver can select how much information he or she would like to agree to, before the space is booked, but the aim is to address all driver circumstances, including drivers who are in a rush, so do not have time to investigate all parking options, before setting off on the journey. ParkSmart can also take into account a reduction or extension in the time needed in the parking space, if the driver makes adjustments. Time extension confirmation would be subject to other reservations in the parking space, but ParkSmart can offer the driver, who wants the extra time, alternative spaces, as well as offer a discounted rate, for a parking space location change, to the other driver in question: the driver who has booked the same space, after the current driver was due to leave. Of course, the change would not be confirmed without the agreement of the second driver. In New York City, alone, annual on-street parking charges are approximately US$197 million and parking violation tickets total approximately US$550 million. If multiple cities are considered, a business structure whereby a small percentage commission, charged by ParkSmart, would prove most profitable. Alternatively/additionally, navigation system manufacturers might be interested in licence agreements. Sea Smart Sea Smart is, to summarise, ParkSmart for boat operators. This system enables boat users to book (long term, medium term and last minute) dock spaces in marinas, according to customer selected criteria, ranging from the berth price to estimated time of arrival at the marina, fuel consumption en route and related costs, taking into account weather conditions, as well as distance. When integrated with existing on-board boat and marina management systems, dock spaces can be fully utilised, as they could be rented on an hourly basis, at last minute, when not used by the owner. Also, the marina management would be able to manage many aspects of marina use more precisely Moor Smart Moor Smart is an automated ropeless docking system for boats. The initial plan is to build a system, which is integrated within the boat, without the need for dock modification, so the boat user can use this at any marina i.e. no marina modifications would be needed. I would also like to incorporate automatic fenders: I have noted Fender Bag System Srl. The attachment arms would need to sense different marina configurations, in order to dock the boat in different marinas. The arms would be designed to be able to flex like ropes, when the boat is docked. Existing autopilot systems, drive systems, distance detector systems, artificial intelligent robotics, cameras and laser sensors can be
- 3. adapted to guide the boat from the point of entering the marina to the dock, then detect the position of the dock attachment fitting and attach to this, using a grip facility, which adapts to the specific dock design & configuration. Moor Smart could be offered as a fully automated system or semi automatic system, depending on the customer’s budget and requirements. For example, some customers may wish to omit the rope replacement hydraulic arms and have the system navigate automatically and manoeuvre automatically into the dock space, where ropes would still be used. Other customers may wish to only have the automatic mooring installation, so they still have to drive the boat to the dock space, but do not need to use manually attached ropes to secure the boat to the dock side. In time, when sales reach a sufficient level and a sufficient number of marinas are aware of the benefits of the system, there would be good reason for them to modify their docks to a uniform design, so the docking interface would be more simple and then all the services, including water, electricity, fuel and sewage (for smaller boats, which do not have on-board sewage treatment devices), could be linked through the docking arm, negating the need for multiple loose hose lines and electrical cables etc. Moor Smart uses technology to enable docking functions to be more accurate, leading to fewer occurrences of injury and boat damage, when compared to an owner/operator or crew: this will lead to insurance cost savings. In addition, there are green credentials, as fuel consumption will be reduced, when navigating, manoeuvring and docking. To summarise, the desire is to bring boating technology up to date with aviation technology, in many aspects.
