Blackboard DevCon 2013 - Hackathon

Editor's Notes

  • #3: Welcome toDevCon’s first hackathon. I’m very excited to see you’re here. Today, we have the next 24 hours to unleash our creativity on Building Blocks! Your deliverable could be working code, UI mockups, or presentation on your ideas.
  • #4: My name is Nori, Director of Engineering and this is Danny, probably the best developer we have at Blackboard. We are your hackathon organizers and we’re going to do everything we can to help you succeed.
  • #5: Besides Danny and I, you also have help from our Chief Architect, David and Director of DevOps, Mike. For B2 development and Backboard API, come see Danny, David, or me. If you’re interested in leveraging test driven development, please go see Mike.
  • #6: In addition, we have our security experts on the floor. Stephanie, Franco, and Matt can answer any questions you have with regards to securing your building blocks.
  • #7: So find us at hackspace. It’s going to be open all day.
  • #8: And email us if you can’t find us. The email address is innovate-devcon@blackboard.com
  • #9: Did we mention prizes?! YES, we are giving away up to 4 kindles to people with the best submissions. The judges will use the criteria of:InnovationImpact and potentialUser experienceQuality of demo
  • #10: Not everyone will get a Kindle but you will all get our custom laptop stickers for participating today… So get yoursnow as Danny’s going to hand them out and show your hackathon spirit!
  • #11: So to get started, the first thing you need to do is login to Course Sites, which looks just like this. Theinformation to get started and submit your work is there. If you have not signed up, please do so now. Once you do, the first thing you want to do is to review the information page. Then check out assignments.
  • #12: Here’s the URL and access code. It’s tinyurl.com/2013-devcon-hackathon. And the access code is innovate@devcon2013. You can also find them on the session description on the website and the mobile device as well as the program book.
  • #13: There are total of three assignments. And they are due tomorrow at 10am. Please refer to Course Sites on how to submit them.
  • #14: We have Twitter hashtags, #DevCon13 and #BbInnovate13 to let the world know what awesome things we’re building today. If you’d like, I highly recommend publishing your work on GitHub. Git is a fantastic revision control repository. If you haven’t tried it. I suggest you do. You’d love it!
  • #15: Here’re the things I want you to remember while working .
  • #16: So let’s get social
  • #17: And make things
  • #18: But before we split, we’d like to run an idea pitch session and Danny’s going to explain how this works.
