Start with the Basics!

Blackboard: Main Page
1. Activity Stream provides a “bird’s-eye view” of
new, recent, and upcoming items in your
courses, including due dates, announcements,
grades, etc.
2. Courses displays your current and previous
courses, color-coded to be distinguishable in
the Course Calendar and Activity Stream.
Clicking a course will open the course.
3. Organizations displays the organizations
(groups that exist outside of courses) in which
you are enrolled.
When you log into the Blackboard system, you will see a left-side navigation that will display
information for all of your courses. Selecting your name will display your basic user profile.

4. Calendar provides a master calendar of all your
courses and organizations, where you can add
assignments and other events. Instructors usually set
up the calendar within the course.
5. Messages displays all new/unread messages,
separated by course and organization.
6. Grades displays assignments in your courses.
Students are able to use this link to view their
grades and feedback.
7. Tools contains your personal content collection
(cloud storage drive) and portfolios.
8. Sign Out is how you exit Blackboard.
9. User Profile allows you to set your personal
preferences, including notifications, etc.

1. Announcements: Pertinent information and important
reminders!
2. What's New: What has happened since you last logged in, or
been added (or made available) within the last 24+ hours.
3. Course Material: Course and instructor information (e.g.,
syllabus, rubrics, instructions for SkillSoft and other systems,
etc.), policies (e.g., attendance, late assignments, etc.).
4. Weekly Lessons: Your lessons and assignments for each week
of the term.
5. Course Schedule: What should be completed each week and
when it's due, grading criteria, etc.
6. Course Calendar: Important dates for the course (set by
you or the instructor).
7. Ask Questions: Discussion board to ask course-related
questions to the class and instructor, of a public nature.

8. Send Messages: Communicate (similar to email) with
the instructor and/or fellow students, for more private
or personal subjects.
9. Student Resources: Link to a general student resource
page, containing items such as tutorials, contact
information, catalog links, tutoring information, etc.
10. My Grades: A list of your grades for each assignment,
average grade by category (e.g., assignments, quizzes,
etc.), overall running total, feedback, etc.
11. Library: Link to all location libraries and resources
12. Tools: A list of Blackboard-related tools made available
for your course
13. Blackboard Help: Link to Blackboard Help for
Students!
