This document provides instructions for creating and interpreting box-and-whisker plots. It explains how to find the minimum, first quartile, median, third quartile, and maximum of a data set. These values are used to construct a box-and-whisker plot, with the median and quartiles dividing the data into four equal parts. An example using the number of points scored by different players on the Lakers basketball team is provided. Readers are then guided through steps to find these values for sample data sets and encouraged to try an experiment counting water drops on a penny to generate their own data set.
