- 2. My Capstone Project Assignment For my Capstone Project Assignment I was assigned to work with Mr. Doug Phillips To build a website for a customer of his. The business was a palm tree cutting service in Sarasota Florida The website was to be built using a software program called WordPress
- 3. WordPress Basic 101 You hear allot about blogs today. A blog is a journal or diary and can be used either for personal use or for a business. The government is using blogs now to post videos integrate news feeds into their blogs. News media uses blogs to integrate their new media into the blog.
- 4. WordPress 101 So one of the popular methods people use to write and develop their blogs is using WordPress. WordPress software is a personal publishing system that uses PHP and MySQL platform. WordPress provides everything you need to create a blog and publish your content onto the web.
- 5. WordPress 101 WordPress publishes your content dynamically without you having to program the pages yourself WordPress does this using PHP and MySQL, a database and is stored on the hosting web server domain. WordPress is open source so is free and works under GPL or general public license
- 6. WordPress 101 So what is a dynamic web page? WordPress uses PHP to dynamically process your web site content to and from the web server. So when a user goes to your blog to read your content The user makes a request which is sent to the web server.
- 7. PHP PHP or personal home page originally know and now called Hypertext processor. PHP is a scripting language The web server processes PHP commands and sends it back to the web browser PHP is a different language than HTML
- 8. PHP You use PHP by inserting PHP code inside the HTML that makes up your website. When someone visits your website which contains this code, the server executes it. PHP is a scripting language, like HTML PHP does not need to be compiled it gets used PHP gets processed on the fly as necessary
- 9. What can PHP do? PHP can track stat’s of traffic to your web site. Run threaded discussions on your web site. It can serve different pages to people on different web browsers Serve XML pages
