You need a computer. Some name brands include Hewlett Packard, Sony, Gateway, and Dell. Your computer includes the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. To connect to the Internet you need a modem. This modem calls your Internet service provider and gives them your user name and password. They verify your information and then let you access one of their Internet connections. The Equipment You Need
The Internet is a worldwide network, or in other words, an interconnection of big and small networks around the globe. A network is a series of computers that are connected to each other. What is the Internet?
Not to be confused with the Internet, an intranet is a private network that is enclosed within an organization that uses computers. The organization uses an intranet to protect their, often private, information from anyone, not in the organization. You can think of it as a network in an office building that only employees can access because they are a part of the organization. No one outside of the organization can access the information on the intranet. What is an Intranet?
(HTML) Hyper Text Markup Language-The programming language used to create documents for display on the World Wide Web. In other words, it is the computer language that programmers use to make and display their documents on the Internet. English is one language authors use to create books. HTML is a computer language that people use to create electronic documents. (XML) Extensible Markup Language- Another way of sharing information over the Internet. This computer language is universal because almost any computer can use it. What is HTML? XML?
The basic code that makes up a software program. Words make a book what it is and source code makes a program what it is. What is Source Code?
What are the practical needs of the WWW in terms of RAM, hard disk capacity, CPU speed, methods of connectivity, and software? There are no specific practical needs for your computer to access the WWW, but the minimum to fully take advantage of the web is about 1GB RAM, 100GB and above hard disk capacity, 1.5-2.2 GHz CPU, either a dial up or DSL or high speed connections provided by your Internet service provider, and browser software such as Internet Explorer or Firefox. Technical Needs for the WWW
What would you need to do to publish their own website? The first step is to get a domain name. For instance, yahoo.com or google.com. This is basically a name for your website. The next step is to choose a web host. A web host is usually an ISP that provides server space and makes your web files available on the Internet. The next and last step is to create your website. You can use a variety of software that helps you design different elements of your web page like graphics( pictures, backgrounds, etc.) and add different services for your web page viewers.
What is a LAN and a WAN? A LAN is a local area network or, in other words, a computer network covering a local area, such as a home, office or small group of buildings. A WAN is a wide area network, or in other words, a computer network that is larger than a LAN. So, instead of just an office or a couple of buildings, it might be a whole block in your neighborhood. What is a URL? A URL is a uniform resource locater, or in basic words, an address that gives the place of a file on the Internet.
The Internet provides many convenient tools like email, or electronic mail, search engines, or websites that search for other websites by the keyword you type in, and a never-ending amount of information for anything you might need. Benefits of using the Internet
