The UK government aims for the best superfast broadband network in Europe by 2015, with BT investing £2.5bn to extend fibre broadband to two-thirds of Britain by spring 2014. Surrey is leading the initiative, aiming for nearly 100% coverage, with 35 exchanges deployed and benefits seen by local businesses and residents. The project will trial new technologies to improve broadband speeds for more remote areas and aims to ensure that everyone in the county has access to superfast broadband.
