What was your greatest achievement last year? Adding Netlibrary (e-books) Staying sane! Keeping the  internet  running for the patrons. I've been able to encourage use of our library by our  Spanish  speaking patrons.  We implemented public classes to  teach computer use .  I am the new  director  of my library. Building Online Community with Staff (Sydney, NSW)

  • #2: Thank you so much for the introduction – this is going to be such a fun session. Thank you all for being here! Before we get started I want to emphasize that when LeAnne and I started talking about the session I had imagined a smaller group and with the two hours I thought we might be doing something more formally structured around interaction. With this big group we’ve decided to change it up a bit and not do anything too structured but we have plenty of time today and so I want to facilitate as much conversation as possible. Please, feel free to interrupt me at any time. I have pause points built into the presentation at natural breaking points so we can get into questions at that time as well. But please, I’d love to have your questions at any time during the program, and am very happy to veer off course into whatever conversation comes of the time today… Near the end of the program I have some alternate paths in place as well – we can choose our own adventure, so to speak, or we can just get through the whole lot of it and you’ll know more about me and my work building online community than anyone else has ever, ever heard. Either way. Let’s dive in – this will be fun. Anything before I start? Ok. I thought I’d start by introducing myself and telling you a little bit about where I’m from. This is my first visit to New South Wales. I had a wonderful time last week at the Public Library Conference and I am just really pleased to be here today. Thank you so much to the state library for having me. Everyone has been so generous and I’ve really appreciated all the hospitality really.
