THE SLC An academic department that provides advice to all University of Auckland students, from first year to doctoral, to develop academic learning and performance skills including:
Undergraduate: *Writing (essays, reports, style etc.)  *Reading & notetaking  *Time & self-management  *Memory & concentration  *Test & examination skills  *Oral presentation skills  *Language learning  *Tutorial skills  *Motivation & goal setting  *Survival skills
Postgraduate: *Writing (essays, reports, theses & dissertations, style etc.)  *Oral presentations skills  *Time & self-management  *Research & data analysis (quantitative &  qualitative)  *Survival skills  *Supervision  *Reading & organisation of ideas
Computer: *Introductory computing  *Microsoft Windows  *Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)  *EndNote  *SPSS  *N4 Classic  *NVivo  *SAS  *LaTex
SLC Programmes: Te Puni Wananga (for Maori students) Fale Pasifika (for Pacific Islands students) Business Communication Skills Language Exchange Mathematics & Statistics Postgraduate Skills Development Doctoral Skills Development  R.EAL (Results for English as an Additional Language students)  Computer Skills Development Summer School Tamaki
Instruction is delivered through lectures, workshops and individual consultations (including drop-ins) SLC also provides assessment of, and appropriate instruction and support to, students who have specific learning disabilities (dyslexia, ADHD, etc.) Our aim is to cater for the academic learning and performance needs of  all  students at the University of Auckland.  Let us know what you need  and we will do out best to provide it
Business Communication Skills Development Programme The Business School directly funds the Programme The programme provides support to all Business students on the City, Shore and Tamaki campuses Largely focused on the development of effective oral and written communication skills Also advises Business students on a range of other academic learning and performance skills Through lectures, course-specific workshops, general workshops and individual consultations
Course-Specific Workshops: Co-ordinators, lecturers and tutors are strongly encouraged to request department- and course-specific workshops to specifically meet their student’s needs, which are offered at suitable times and locations. Advice can be provided in the evenings and on weekends by arrangement. Examples of department- and course-specific workshops offered within the Business School in 2004 include: essay writing and referencing for Management 101 test preparation for Info Systems 101 business report writing templates for Management 191 report writing for Accounting 393 open-book exam preparation for Executive Programmes students thesis writing strategies for Master of Commerce students

Hard-Copy Handouts Handouts are available by attending relevant workshops or contacting a suitably qualified Student Learning Centre tutor.  Resources can be included in course books or posted on CECIL.
Downloadable Web-Site Resources Undergraduate and postgraduate resources are downloadable from the Student Learning Centre website at:  www. slc . auckland .ac. nz
How Can Students and Staff Access Student Learning Centre Services? Students must  register  with the Centre for the current calendar year ($10.00)  Students must book to attend a workshop or seek one-to-one advice from a tutor Please note: Course-specific workshops requested within the Business School are run at no additional charge to the department
Availability of  SLC Services The SLC is located on the third floor of the Information Commons, 9 Symonds St, with reception in Room 320  Opening hours: 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday Instruction also available in the early mornings, evenings and on Saturdays by arrangement Similar services also offered at Tamaki  (Room 710.110, Student Resource Centre) and North Shore (Room 670.105) campuses.
How You Can Help Us To Better Advise Your Students: *Encourage your students to attend our workshops * Encourage your students to seek individual advice from us – early! * Encourage your students to utilise our books and other resources * Ask us to run specific workshops for your students * Utilise our marker feedback sheet * Send us information regarding your course learning objectives, and coursework and exam expectations * Ask us to provide information about the SLC and/or SLC resources to include in your course books or post on CECIL
