Article on having an "PARENT CHILD BONDING"
Just like with any relationship, building a positive relationship between a parent and a
child is one that requires work and effort to make it strong and successful. It grows into
a deep bond over time. Parenting is a tough job, and maintaining close relationships
and open communications helps to ensure that parents and their children stay
connected through all stages of their upbringing. It is a challenging job, but worth the
effort in gold.

Parenting is perhaps the most fulfilling experience a person can have. In one of the
Indian vernaculars, the expression used to indicate the training received during the
growing years is, “to become a human being” in other words, if person was born and
brought up in Mumbai, he would have to say, “I became a human being in Mumbai”.
Let us not look at the literal meaning and laugh it off. The deeper import is what we
should ponder over. What this expression means is that a human being is full of animal
(survival ) instincts when he is born. This small infant is taken care of by the parents
who share their love and affection, provide food and shelter, provide education, identity
and thereby help the child metamorphose into a respectable adult.

Parenting thus is a very onerous task. Never was it easy, nor is it so and never will it be
so in the future too. However, it has its own rewards too. When one sees one's child
blossom into a good human being, the joy one feels is to be felt to be described.

As part of good parenting, it is very important to establish a strong bond of love
between the parent and child. Children need to be showered with lots of love and
affection. It is very important to tell them “I love you”. This makes the child feel
wanted and thereby enhances his/her self esteem. Values like honesty, truthfulness,
punctuality, etc. are cultivated by the parents in their children from a very early age.
Children watch their parents and learn more by watching. So it is important to walk the
talk. It is important that parents explain to children their belief system and also the
reason why they believe in what they believe. For instance it would be good to tell the
child the reason for or the benefits of being truthful rather than just ordering him to be
truthful.

A parent needs to be a child himself while spending time with little children. Playing
with children is another very important aspect of parenting. The father or the mother
playing with their dolls, toys, cartoons etc. make the children happy and feel important.
It also provides an opportunity to spend some quality time together. Another way of
bonding with children is to involve them in some small household chores. This makes
them learn a task or two and also makes them feel a part of the family. This helps the
child in identifying itself with his or her family and hence it feels secure. Eating food as a
family goes a long way in fostering the parent child bond. It gives a sense of belonging
as well as an opportunity to talk with each other without hurrying through the eating
session. A bedtime ritual like story telling or story reading either by the parent or the
child is another very important aspect of good parenting. This brings the parent and
child closer and the memories of this will sometimes live with the child throughout his
or her life.

A child is a gift from God. The bond between a child and its parents is not only a great
source of joy but also very essential for the child's development. Parents are the first
teachers for a child. It is an inseparable bond. The stronger it is, happier will the child
be and better are the chances for its all round development.
