Birds eye-view Looking directly down 
on a scene. Can be used 
to give an establishing 
shot of a scene. 
High Angle Camera shot from a 
high angle, looking 
down on the person to 
show he/she is in 
trouble or danger. 
Extreme close up 
Zoomed right in to a 
certain part of the face 
to show importance of 
that character or to 
further convey 
emotion. 
Low Angle 
Shot from a low angle 
to show the audience 
that the person(s) 
being filmed is 
powerful. 
Worms eye-view 
From the ground 
looking directly up, to 
show power or scale of 
what the camera is 
filming 
Canted/Dutch Angle A slanted angle, could 
be used to show 
disorder or chaos.
Close up A shot of the face to 
convey emotion and 
show that the 
character is crucial to 
the scene. 
Medium Close up Shot from a medium 
distance away, 
showing their upper 
body and face without 
getting uncomfortably 
close. 
Long shot Shot from a far 
distance, showing the 
persons whole body, 
maybe to show power 
or authority 
Point of view angle Shot from the point of 
view of a character, so 
the viewer can 
empathise with what 
he/she’s going 
through. 
Over the shoulder 
angle 
Used to maintain 
continuity, to show a 
conversation.

  • 1. Camera Angle Example What it’s used for Birds eye-view Looking directly down on a scene. Can be used to give an establishing shot of a scene.
