INTRODUCTION
◆ By 2030, the United Nations has arranged a
plan to end poverty, preserve the planet, and
guarantee prosperity for all.
Laguna State Polytechnic University
◆ At the wheel of these sustainable
development goals - BETTER ACCESS TO
EDUCATION.
◆ Access to inclusive and quality education is
Global concern
INTRODUCTION
◆ 91% - enrollment in primary education in
developing countries
◆ 57M - children remain out of school
◆ 103M - youth still lack basic literacy skills
■ 60% - WOMEN
◆ 86th out of 140 countries - terms of primary
education and health
Laguna State Polytechnic University
INTRODUCTION
Laguna State Polytechnic University
◆ DepEd recognizes
the key role of
information and
communications
technology (ICT) in
improving the state
of education
INTRODUCTION
Laguna State Polytechnic University
◆ Overdue
development
◆ Strategies and
portals are not
enough
◆ Many schools
continue to struggle
with limited budgets
RESEARCH PROJECT OBJECTIVE
◆ The research project aims to utilize ICT as an e-
learning tool for engaging teachers’ and
students’ interaction in Araling Panlipunan.
Laguna State Polytechnic University
◇ Online-based and mobile responsive learning
including assessment tool
◇ EPS’ creation and management of centralized
lessons
◇ Integrate the different learning materials and
assessment
◇ Evaluate system’s performance
METHODOLOGY
◆ A series of surveys and interviews with the ICT
head, AP Department Heads, Master Teachers and
District Supervisor
◆ A set of questionnaires was created for Grades 5
and 6 mentors
◆ Gathered relevant literature and studies in libraries,
online research engines and journals
◆ Brainstorming (plan and design a prototype)
Laguna State Polytechnic University
METHODOLOGY
◆ Employs Rapid Application Development (RAD) with
USE Case Methodology
◆ Performed an Alpha and Beta Testing
◆ Frequency, Weighted Mean and Likert Scale of 1 to 4;
4 being the highest and 1 as the lowest
◆ ISO 9126 Evaluation Model
Laguna State Polytechnic University
THE DEVELOPED SYSTEM
◆ Created using HTLM5, PHP with PDO, Adobe
Dreamweaver, TinyMCE, Xampp, MySQL
◆ System Capabilities
■ allows the Education Program Supervisors to
create a centralized access to the learning
materials through a responsive web
application as designed
■ enables the AP to teachers to become more
dynamic

RESULT AND DISCUSSION
Laguna State Polytechnic University
Overall acceptance of the developed system
CONCLUSION
◆ The developed system can be an indication of
integrating ICT in AP
◆ It may bring new educational experiences to the
young generation of both elementary educators
and students
◆ It provides an alternative approach for students
to access and download learning materials in
Araling Panlipunan
Laguna State Polytechnic University
RECOMMENDATION
◆ The implementation of the developed system
will empower the teachers and students to
become more confident and competent in the
use of technologies, shared resources, and
collaborative learning.
◆ The Philippine Government - Department of
Education need to prioritize in advancing the
public learning institution facilities.
Laguna State Polytechnic University
IMPLICATION
Laguna State Polytechnic University
◆ The DepEd – Division of Laguna needs to
address the challenges they will be facing the
implementation of the developed system.
● ICT-enhanced education for educational
policy and planning
● infrastructure-related challenges
● capacity-building
◆ learning and assessment process can become
more exciting and productive.

Editor's Notes

 • #4: Education is the gateway to address all other development issues, including equality, environmental preservation, and modernization. When an individual gains sufficient knowledge and skills, he can make life better, not just for himself, but for others.
 • #5: According the UN, enrollment in primary education in developing countries has reached 91 percent, but 57 million children remain out of school. Worldwide, 103 million youth still lack basic literacy skills, and more than 60 percent of them are women. Worldwide, 103 million youth still lack basic literacy skills, and more than 60 percent of them are women. World Economic Forum ranked the Philippines 86th out of 140 countries in terms of primary education and health.
 • #6: The Internet, with its capacity to hold an infinite number of resources, can provide accessible and comprehensive education for students, wherever they may be in the country. Online learning databases do not waste precious natural resources. A single laptop and projector set-up, for example, can be used for a learning session for an entire classroom
 • #7: The Philippine government put up a national strategy for improving Internet access, identifying education as a key area that would benefit from ICT development The existence of strategies and portals are not enough. Next comes the heavier challenge of deploying these resources to school children. Today, many schools continue to struggle with limited budgets for acquiring enough software, desktop computers and laptops. Computer literacy must become mandatory for teacher licensure, and in-service ICT training for educators must be continuously improved. The DepEd’s 5-year strategic plan acknowledges that the education system as a whole lacks infrastructure for connectivity and access to technologies.
 • #9: conducted to determine the current methods, the process of teaching and assessment of students in the entire division to determine their views of integrating technology in teaching and studying AP
 • #10: The development engaged in four phases: requirement planning, user design, construction or development and cutover. The Alpha testing is used to identify errors, bugs, and unexpected issues by allowing the Alpha testers or the developers and /or IT experts test and evaluate the system first. Beta testing on the other hand is used to test the system with the intended users (i.e. AP teachers, admins, students). ISO 9126 – Functionality, Reliability, Usability, Efficiency, Maintainability and Portability
 • #19: The usability responses gained a result of 3.24 which is verbally-interpreted as acceptable. It means that the developers require making minor modifications to make the user interface design more appealing to the users. The respondents’ average responses for conformance to the desired result, the absence of failures, accuracy in performance is within the range of 3.29 to 3.63. It means that reliability provides highly-acceptable output in the system. Lastly, maintainability scored 3.03 since the respondents encountered difficulties operating the system and also because some of the Araling Panlipunan teachers are not ICT ready.
 • #22: Such factors to consider are an ICT-enhanced education for educational policy and planning, infrastructure-related challenges, and capacity-building. Despite the problems, the implementation of the said system is highly-recommended to cope with the emerging trends of ICT in Education as a result of the application of the K to 12 programs in the Philippines. Furthermore, learning and assessment process can become more exciting and productive. ICT in public schools can be a new means to gauge student-centered assessment which could also cater to learning styles.
