The chaparral biome is dominated by shrubs and found between 30 degrees north and south latitude, often on western coasts of continents. It has a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. Annual rainfall ranges from 30-50 cm mostly in winter. Common plants include blue oak, manzanita, chamise and greasewood, which have hard leaves and can withstand the heat and poor soils. Animals living in the chaparral biome include coyotes, lizards, mountain lions, foxes and snakes and have adapted to the hot, dry conditions.
