INTRODUCTION TO WORLD CULTURES
Definition of Terms
 Culture - is the characteristics and
knowledge of a particular group of
people, defined by everything from
language, religion, cuisine, social habits,
music and arts.
 Tradition -is a belief or behavior passed
down within a group or society with
symbolic meaning or special
significance with origins in the past.
Culture
 Non-material culture refers to the non-
physical ideas that individuals have
about their culture, including values,
belief systems, rules, norms, morals,
language, organizations, and
institutions, while
 Material culture is the physical evidence
of a culture in the objects and
architecture they make or have made.
