Fractions represent parts of a whole. Equivalent fractions have the same value even if they are written differently. A mixed number consists of a whole number and a fraction. A proper fraction has a numerator smaller than its denominator, while an improper fraction has a numerator equal to or greater than its denominator. Improper fractions can be changed into mixed numbers, and fractions with a common denominator can be added or subtracted.
