                       Chapter 9: Diversity-Communication: Making Relationships



    A) Look up diversity in a dictionary and select a definition, write the definition you selected. How
       would you expand on the definition?

Diversity: The condition of having or being composed of differing elements: variety; especially: the
inclusion of different types of people (as people of different races or cultures) in a group or organization
programs intended to promote diversity in schools.

My expansion of the definition is that diversity means to me a chance to be better, Stronger, and
overflow in wealth. When two or more type, kind, class of people come together to create greatness.



    B) Now taking into account the Diversity factors: Personality traits; Learning preferences; Natural
       talents; Interests, answer the following questions:

    1. What is cultural competence?

        Cultural competence is when one is able to appreciate differences and adjust to behavior that
        enhances relationships. Once you know yourself and you are able to realize other differencesas
        well as how to deal with them, you will be able to build relationships that are based on similar
        goals.

        How can you develop it?

        You can learn cultural competence by interacting with other that are different from you in race,
        color, personality, look, values, religion, culture, sex, age…. Etc.… plus building positive
        relationships by looking for shared goals, likes, and tolerating the differences.



    2. How can you communicate effectively?

        Paying attention to what is appropriate in the other persons cultural and being respect of
        dissimilarities.



    3. How can you make the most of personal relationships?

        You can make the most of personal relationship by being open minded, understanding, and
        appreciating what the other person brings to the table.
