What effect did German preparations and strategies have on the outcome of the Normandy invasion?
Let s Build a Wall: An Analysis of German Preparations and How They Affected the Normandy
Landings Germans preparedness (or unpreparedness) was a decisive part of the Normandy Invasion.
Hitler had it right to send Rommel in to shore up the German western defenses, but The Desert Fox
did not have enough time or enough power to make a big enough impact on the invasion. This would
have remarkable repercussions on the outcome of the war. If the Germans had fought harder or better
or smarter the Allies would not have been able to get a foothold. If the Allies did not open up this
western front for the Germans the Soviets would have a much more ... Show more content on

This was the German s equivalent to the Great Wall of China in the sense that it was supposed to keep
the enemy out, but the similarity ends there. This was a modern defense network consisting of
concrete bunkers, machine gun nests, and trenches (Trueman). Hitler also knew that these defenses
may not be enough so he put one of his best generals in charge of his Atlantic Wall. This man was the
desert fox, Erwin Rommel.
Rommel knew that a big wall alone would not be enough to prevent the Allies from gaining their
foothold. Artillery emplacements were supported with machine gun posts and other artillery
emplacements were built inland to give the Wall some form of protection when the expected Allied
landings took place (Truman). From his past experiences in Africa, the Desert Fox understood the
importance of supporting Artillery with machine guns and vice versa. He also knew that the Allies
would come with a wide variety of forces. So, Rommel too, experimented with a wide variety of
defensive equipments. These included anti tank and anti vehicle obstructions that were strewn all
along the coast of France (Trueman). Rommel s preparations did not stop here, however. The idea that
the next step that a soldier takes could be his last is a terrifying thought. This fear was utilized by the
Germans and many mines were added to the Atlantic Wall per Rommel s discretion. Six million mines
were laid on beaches in Northern France (Trueman). This is an

Proud My Heritage
I am proud of my heritage, my melanin and my culture. I will not hide my skin because someone else
is biased and ignorant. Many people before me have made history and have paved the way for future
generations of African Americans to do something great. They ve became doctors, lawyers, engineers
and yet no one has recognized the great things the people of my culture have done. People are not
proud of their heritage, they never want to praise those who came before them. People like Madam
Efunroye Tinubu, Claudette Colvin and Henry McNeal Turner paved the way for African Americans
to have a cultural identity. I am proud to be an African American and proud to be apart of a tight knit,

Within the Black Power Conferences, African issues such as the Civil War in Nigeria were discussed.
The peoples of the conference opted for unification as a tactic that would fight forces of European
imperialism that divided the country. There were many organizations, such as the Black Panther Party,
which were anti imperialist. Unlike Garvey s organization, the Black Panthers supported third world
countries while they were on their quest for independence. They also wanted to establish a strong
African American presence in the United States. During the time of the Black Panther Party and the
Black Power Movement, the Arusha Declaration was passed in Tanzania. It highlighted the growing
trend of Africanization of the black community and put forth concepts relevant to the struggles of the
Black community. The Declaration was centered around Ujamaa, the concept of being united in every

A Successful Business Leadership Style
The ultimate aim of this research is to highlight a successful business leadership style. The intention is
to research business leadership in the developing countries, and devise a new framework or strategy
that can be used by businesses and education systems within developing countries and possibly other
Asian countries. This framework would identify the qualities necessary to develop an appropriate
leadership style to be an effective leader in organisations operating. This will be achieved by
investigating the social and cultural environment and look at how these forces affect the business
environment, and in particular the qualities of a good leader within the organisation. The research
aims to fill a gap in the existing body of knowledge to do with leadership and management in different
regions of the world.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Background
Broadly speaking, leadership can be defined as a process in which an individual influences a group of
individuals to work towards the achievement of a common goal or vision (Lussier, 1996; Northouse,
2001; Stogdill, 1974). Moreover, Bush and Coleman (2000) note that since most of what has been
written about leadership draws upon western cultural models, it should be borne in mind that
leadership might well be viewed differently in different cultures.
The difference between leadership and management is vividly encapsulated in Bass s model of
transformational and transactional leadership styles. Transformational leaders

Comparison Of The Human Rights Act 1998 And Tort Law
The Human Rights Act 1998 and Tort Law are seen to be together in overlapping ways as François du
Bois explains. In this essay we will begin by looking at the introduction of the Human Rights Act, and
the claims in negligence against public authorities. Then we will look at the different views as to the
remedies, whether Tort law and the Human Rights Act, should be used together and developed
together, or should be used separately in a claim in negligence against a public authority.
The introduction of the Human Rights Act 1998, as Oliphant and Lunney describes it creates a new
statutory remedy against public authorities for violating of the specified Convention rights . Section 7
of the act requires that any individual that brings a claim against public authorities must be a victim. A
victim under the Human Rights Act refers to the person who could bring a case under the ECHR.
Victims must be directly affected or be at risk of being directly affected by the act in questions.
Victims can include...relatives of the victim where a complaint is made about death. . An example of
this would be the case of Rabone v Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust in which Melanie had in the
past attempted to commit suicide on several occasions. After the most recent attempt she was admitted
to the hospital where they observed and tested her. Two days after, she was released for two days
home visit despite her tests indicating her being at high risk of attempting suicide again, which is

Mental Illness And Criminology Essay
Criminology and Physical or Mental Illness
Crime
Crime is seen as any deviant act that is dangerous or harmful socially and is considered to be
prohibited and punishable under laws of crime(Siegel, 2007). Deviant behavior includes a wide range
of behaviors which are considered to be out of line with the social norms in a given society. It is
deduced from this definition that criminal acts are deviant which a society considers harmful to them
and prohibits them(Siegel, 2007).
Sociological understanding of deviant acts is that they are rooted in a society s molding of these
persons. Theory of Social psychology is based on the arguments that the inadequacies observed in
social roles, norms self direction and poor role modeling contribute to criminal behaviors.
The argument that people who commit criminal activities are physically or mentally ill can only be
made where an understanding of crime s magnitude is beyond human cognition. Criminologist in the
twenty first century have advanced the field of criminology and brought about a higher understanding
of crimes. The understanding of human behavior does away with the abnormality of criminal actions
and logical explanations are made. It is cognizable given the twenty first century theories of
criminology that there are driving forces behind commitment of a criminal action(Siegel, 2007).
Analyzing the classical and Neo Classical theories of crime, the twenty first century theories of crimes
are observed to agree that

The Master Behind the Scandal
The Empire of the Edge is the article under discussion. Patrick R. Keefe writes the article, and it deals
with the issue of Steven A. Cohen, who is a billionaire trader and masterminded the greatest financial
scam in the history of United States stock market through his hedge fund S.A.C Capital Advisors. The
story as discussed in the article starts with the issue when a medicine called bapineuzumab (Keefe)
was being developed to treat Alzheimer disease. Mathew Martoma joined S.A.C Capital Advisors and
worked his ways to get close to Dr. Sid Gilman, one of the doctors working on the production of

lost a lot of money due to Cohan shorting of Elan and Wyeth stock. After the major issue that was
faced by Cohen and because of these charges, the legal team settles the case at a huge price.
Afterward, the company and Cohen separated their ways entirely. Despite this major issue that Cohen
has faced, he is still a very active member of the financial community, and considered as one of the
best hedge funds manager in the United States by many.
The significant finding from this article is that the world of finance is a very strange world. This world
can offer opportunities to many, and at the same time, it can prove to be a mess for the others. Many
people are not corrupt in their person, but by being negligent or by being careless, they fail at doing
their duty successfully at some points in time. However, what the article talks about is the complete
picture. Steven A Cohen faced a problem. He got entangled in an enormous financial mess.
However, not only did he face the charges, he tried to resolve the issues as positively as possible.
Because of his efforts, he could resume his career as a financial hedge funds expert very soon.
Usually, once a person faced such charges, his or her job is over. When it comes to Cohen, he

The Reaction Of Catalase Breaking Down Hydrogen Peroxide
PreLab Questions:
The reaction that will be taking place is Catalase breaking down hydrogen peroxide.
The enzyme in the reaction is Catalase. If another enzyme like lactase is used, no reaction would take
place because the substrate, hydrogen peroxide, wouldn t fit into the active site.
The substrate is the hydrogen peroxide
The product is H2O and O2.
The rate of reaction will be measured by timing how long it takes for the spheres of yeast to sink and
float up to the top again.
Three factors that can affect the rate of reaction are temperature, pH and the salinity.

For ethical reasons all our results and conclusions will be based on statistics without revealing who
among those we tested is affected or not affected to the public. From the adoption study we expect
Schizophrenia to be more in biological relatives of schizophrenic adoptees than in those of control
adoptees. It will also be of great interest to us to observe if the risk of the adopted away children to
develop Schizophrenia increases if both genetic parents are schizophrenics compared to if only one of
the genetic parents is schizophrenic. Some of the genes may appear to be associated with the disorder
in some ethnic groups and not in others, which would make it difficult to for us to say that a specific
gene is associated with Schizophrenia in general population. This may be because predisposition for
Schizophrenia is created by different combination and/or of genes in different populations interacting
with certain environmental factors. As association studies always follow linkage studies which
identify possible genomic regions or even specific candidate genes which contribute to the
development of a genetically influenced disorder. Results from linkage studies depend on a variety of
factors, including the presumption of the mode of inheritance, the involvement of genes whose effects
are large enough to detect and the extent to which family members are diagnosed accurately as either
affected or unaffected with a disorder in the schizophrenia spectrum. Since all of these factors are
problematic, it is will not be suprising that results from linkage studies are less conclusive and have
yet to identify genes that major effects to the development of

In response David Cameron said, I regret to say that I do not think there will be government

makes his motive immoral and pointless. The Conservative MP Simon Hart, welcomed David
Cameron s decision by saying Given cross party recognition that there are failings in the hunting act
that need to be addressed this seems a sensible way forward Is it really sensible to go forward with
slaughtering foxes in a barbaric way? Is it really sensible to chase these inferior foxes with a pack of

Some people justify this inhumane doing with the claim that foxhounds have been trained to kill with

hunting for safety purposes. Claiming that foxes are dangerous to people and pets, when there is no

Abstract
Mission statements and organizational goals have evolved dramatically over the past twenty years.
Once a mission statement was a simple statement that conveyed why the organization existed. Now,
that same statement may include information about supporting sustainability and corporate
responsibility. This document will look at trends within mission statements and goals. Organizational
Goals

In the Journal of Applied Management and Entrepreneurship study they look at the comparison of
performance of firms with mission statements versus those without mission statements and offer that
findings have been conflicting and inconclusive. There seems to be differing conclusions regarding the
impact of mission statement presence on a firm s financial performance. As cited in Smith, Heady,
Carson, and Carson (2013) they did not find any correlation between performance and having a
mission statement. However other studies as they cite as Campbell and colleagues reported a positive
relationship between mission statement presence and firm performance. Depending on what factors or
variables could play a role in the outcome of the study.

just state why an organization was in business and you would probably see something like, to make

Phycoremediation And Environmental Pollution
The rapid growth of human population and industrialization has lead to the environmental pollution
and the world is facing problems with a wide variety of pollution (Kshirsagar, 2013). The release of
wastewater poses serious environmental challenges to the receiving water bodies (De Bashan et al.,
2002). Today, the demand for clean water is increasing worldwide and the main challenge of
wastewater treatment is not only to produce clean water but it also support new developments (Velan
and Saravanane, 2013). The process of bioremediation depends on the metabolic potential of
microorganisms to detoxify or transform the pollutant, which is further dependent on accessibility and
bioavailability (Bhatnagar and Kumari, 2013). Remediation can be enhanced by the addition of
various microorganisms, called seeding or inoculation, to a polluted environment to promote increased
rate of biodegradation (Antizar Ladislao et al., 2008). Phycoremediation is the use of micro or
macroalgae for the removal or biotransformation of pollutants, including nutrients and toxic chemicals
from wastewater (Olguin, 2003; Mulbry et al., 2008). It is a novel, low cost and an effective technique
that uses simple and economical method as compared to the other conventional treatments on the basis
of nutrient removal (Elumalai et al., 2013; De La Noue et al., 1992). Phycoremediation is comprised
of several applications: (i) nutrient removal from municipal wastewater and effluents rich in organic

How Did Shakespeare Influence Romeo And Juliet
William Shakespeare, a prosperous Renaissance man, is known as the greatest playwright in English
literature. He was born on April 23, 1564 in a small town called Stratford upon Avon, Warwickshire,
England to John and Mary Arden Shakespeare (Waller). William started his writing during the time
period where individuality and freedom of choice were put emphasis on. This lifestyle greatly
influenced a vast majority of his works and his contributions to the English language. Shakespeare has

theme of passion is represented in various situations throughout the play. Passion is described as a
strong and uncontrollable emotion. There are two types of passion expressed in this play, passionate
hatred and passionate affection. Romeo and Juliet are hopeless teenage romantics that are so

Latin Americ The United States Essay
). Another myth is that Latin America is behind the U.S. However, government power and initiatives
have also disproved this. While the U.S. has never had a female president or even vice president, four
Latin American countries have female leaders: Brazil s Dilma Roussef, Costa Rica s Laura Chinchilla,
Argentina s Cristina Fernández de Kirchner and Chile s Michelle Bachelet. (Weiss, L., 2014). Another
stereotype is that immigrants are taking money away from the United States. Despite the speculation
about the financial cost of immigrants, Norris Tirrell (2002) reported that immigrants cost Florida a
mere $25 a year more than the average resident and that undocumented residents brought in more than
$200 a year per person to Texas.
INTERSECTION OF RACE, RACISM AND WHITE PRIVELAGE AMONG LATIN AMERICAN
IMMIGRANTS
Latinos have often been described as; brown skinned people from Latin America. No matter where in
Latin America one originates, all agree that if one is perceived as white they are seen as benefitting
most. On the other hand, those who are seen as white are often discriminated against often because
they are not believed to be Latino which can be very painful as it looks to erase their Latin roots.
Many Latin communities believe the Eurocentric Beauty Standards which indicate those with straight
hair, pale skin, slim noses, and light colored eyes are praised for the ways that they look above
everyone else. Benefitting from these standards is seen as white privilege

How Does Henry Longfellow Establish The Nature Of Life
Through the use of poetic devices Henry Longfellow establishes the nature of life, and the purpose of
life in the poem The Psalm of Life . The poet utilizes poetic devices to establish the nature of life.
Henry Longfellow uses a variety of poetic devices to establish the purpose of life. Mostly Longfellow
uses analogies in combination with symbols in order to establish the purpose of life. Henry
Longfellow crafts his understanding of life through poetic devices used by the speaker. The speaker
utilizes poetic devices in order to establish the nature of life. Through the allusion to the Bible
passages when talking about the mournful numbers the speaker establishes that life has a purpose. The

the use of the metaphor of footprints on the sands of time the speaker establishes the fact that humans

Characteristics Of A Plasma Membrane

1. Fully describe the characteristics of a plasma membrane. Be specific using your own words. (2 3
paragraphs include structure, general function, proteins.)
Cell membranes are basically the barrier of a cell between its interior and its exterior environment. It
protects the cell as well as governs what can and cannot pass through and enter into the cell. The
phospholipid bilayer is a layer of lipids (or more specifically, phospholipids) packed close together
that creates a barrier for the cell membrane. The membrane is also made up of proteins and
cholesterol. Cholesterol is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Active transport on the other hand is the movement from low to high concentration. This kind of
transportation requires energy. An example of this would be moving those sodium chloride molecules
from the diluted left side to the concentrated right side. Now looking at osmosis, this is a process that
takes place after reaching equilibrium. The sodium chloride is still moving between both sides, but
instead of the right side moving more quickly to the left side (in diffusion) both sides are moving
between the membrane at the same rate.
3. Use crenation, red blood cell shrinking, plasmolysis, and turgid plant cells to differentiate between
hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic. (2 3 paragraphs)
Starting with hypertonic, it s a term used to describe when the exterior environment of a cell is more
highly concentrated than its interior environment. Say you placed an animal cell, such as a red blood
cell, in a solution high in sodium chloride. The water inside the red blood cell would rush out, causing
the cell to shrivel up. This is called crenetion. It s a result of osmosis where red blood cells undergo
shrinkage. Something similar happens in plant cells, however, with plant cells the membrane gets
teared off the cell wall. This is called plasmolysis. This happens because the cytoplasm is mostly made
up of water, so as that shrinks from all the

Case 4 Warehouse Clubs
Case 4: Competition among the North American Warehouse Clubs: Costco Wholesale vs. Sam s Clubs
vs. BJ s Wholesale 1. Competition in the North American wholesale club industry is mildly intense.
The players in the wholesale club industry try to achieve lower prices by reducing throughout the store
by using pallets or inexpensive shelving to display items. They also incur very low costs for store
decoration and light fixtures and a relatively low labor cost because of the use of fewer works and
employees to operate the facility. The importance of the five competitive forces among the industry is
high. Consequently, rivalry among competing sellers, buyers, and suppliers are the most important.

5. Five years from now, Costco s standing as the industry s leader is likely to be stronger. Because of
their functioning strategy and the management s understand of the company s overall vision will be
vital in Costco s success. Costco s most important clients are not their shareholders, but their members
and customers. Even in the midst of the shareholders opinions and the Wall Street criticisms, Costco
stays true to the commitment to their members. Costco s strategy of offering the lowest possible prices
to not only small businesses and such, but to individual households, will help them excel in this
industry. Sam s Club is the rival that is gaining strength, but still has not met the standards of Costco.
The issue with Sam s Club is they operate much like the supercenter, Wal Mart, which owns Sam s
Club. Their operation cost is high, as compared to Costco. Costco only keeps in stock a certain
amount of items and constantly change their items to keep customers coming back time after time to
gain the best possible bargain. 6. The recommendations I would make to Jim Sinegal regarding the
actions that Costco management needs to take to sustain the company s growth and improve its
financial performance would be to focus more on advertisement and marketing. Marketing and
advertising through media instead of depending on word of mouth, could result in a dramatic increase
in sales and knowledge of this wholesale club. Because of the low cost of running a

Chinese Farmers Discovered The Terracotta Warrior
In 1974, local Chinese farmers discovered the Terracotta Warrior life sized clay sculptures. The
weather was dry in 1974, and the grain was dying in the fields of Lintong County, Shaanxi Province,
near Xian, China and some local farmers were trying to establish a new water well by digging at a low
point in the terrain. Whilst digging they encountered the first evidence of the Terracotta Warriors. One
of the local farmers Yang Zhifa quoted on the discovery At first the digging went well. The second day
we hit hard red earth. The third day, my hoe dug out the neck of a terracotta statue without a head, but
the opening at the bottom was about size of a bowl, . It wasn t until months later when archaeologists
were informed, arrived and realized that the farmers had stumbled upon an astonishing find in the
form of a large scale Terracotta Warriors dig. They dated the construction around 246 206 BC during
the Qin Dynasty. It was during the reign of the first Emperor of a unified Imperial China Qin Shi
Huang Di. According to Ancient Chinese linguist the words Shi Huang translate as First Emperor so
this individual was also known as the first Emperor of the Qin Dynasty. Chinese civilization has its
origins in Shaanxi and Henan Provinces where the Huang He, or Yellow River, winds its way through

Salva was a Sudanese refugee who walked thousands of miles to reach safety from the civil war in
Sudan. Underground railroad slaves were African Americans who escaped working for wealthy slave

The Importance Of Civil Engineering
When you hear of the word engineering, what comes to mind? Do you think of a train engine rolling
over the plains of South Dakota? Maybe you think of a bridge or a road? If you thought of either of
those things, you are correct. Furthermore, Civil Engineering is all of these things and a little more.
Civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering discipline. It deals with the built environment and
can be dated to the first time someone placed a roof over his or her head or laid a tree trunk across a
river to make it easier to get across (Civil Engineering). Some of the first ever examples of the civil
engineering was the roof and the bridge. Eventually, our knowledge and tools advanced to enhance the
durability and aestheticism of roads, bridges, and buildings. In addition to roads and bridges, civil
engineering also deals with planes, cars, and boats as well.
In order to become a civil engineer or any job, for instance, you must study and become a perfectionist
in that field. Studying in the school of engineering does not focus on just one subject of study. To put
differently, to become a professional in the job of an engineer you must excel in mathematics. Math is
one of the largest staples in engineering, architecture, and business. Diving deeper, at Iowa State
University Calculus 1 and 2 are two required courses to be taken in order to continue in the path of
engineering. In order to build the building that is aesthetically and structurally sufficient engineers

Chemical Surveillance Program For Leukemia
Benzene Exposure Leukemia in Factory Workers Examined
Background
As part of an occupational surveillance program for leukemia from excessive benzene exposure 1,832
factory workers were screened using a new diagnostic test. It was determined of those exposed, 214
tested positive, 29 tested negative and 90 non exposure tested positive. With the use of a contingency
table we will evaluate the measures of validity of the screening test used.
In the study of the association between benzene exposure and leukemia causality has been established
using the Bradford Hill criteria for two specific agents: Ionizing radiation and benzene. Evidence has
been established that high daily exposure to benzene in both a time dose relationship and with dose

design of the study, uncontrolled bias, and the variance in the populations at risk (2006).
Environmental factors such as socioeconomic status, alcohol consumption, and smoking are known
contributors to the development of leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). It s been observed that
occupational exposure to industrial hazards is significantly more frequent overall in populations from
lower socioeconomic backgrounds (Nisse et al., 2001). A complete background of study participants

The Importance Of Self Reflection
Peoples appearances in todays society is based upon the clothes they decided to wear that morning, the
hairstyle they spent hours on doing and the hours that they would never get back deciding what pattern
would look cute to wear on the outside of their skin, bedazzled with sterling silver. With no
anticipation of being stereotyped people continuously repeat these actions in the purpose of self
satisfaction or expression. The two articles referred to in this essay provides personal experiences of
the causes in self reflection decisions in addition to a medical perspective on why sometimes the risk
outweighs the rewards. In fact, in the Article Dredlocked: You see my hair, but do you see me? by
Veronica Chambers she gives a backstory on how her hair was portrayed her whole life as bad , nappy

was straightened into acceptance. Her family, best friend and the doll barbie was even mentioned as a
example of her surroundings that belittled her hair texture. Sharing a story that took place her junior
year in college onNew Year s Eve, Chambers took action in regards to twisting her hair. She long
waited for a call from a boy that was never received. Previously inspired months before by a model on
the front cover of essence, she forwarded to imitating the locks flowing with all the majesty seen on

more than ever. She was called a Rasta mama , Nubian princess , drug dealer , unemployed artist ,
nature chick , rock star , and people even inferred that she smoked weed and listened to Bob Marley.
Chambers told herself that twisting her hair started a process of seeing beauty where no one had ever
seen it before . Chambers withstood the negative and complementing stereotypes in regards to her
own self satisfaction. Her satisfaction of her self expression was all the justification she needed, she

Essay On Trail Of Tears
Trail of Tears
Imagine your mother, father and other siblings having to be forced by the government nevertheless to
move away from the only home you have ever known. This is not fiction, but actually what happened
to many Native Americans in the United States. The Trail of Tears had a huge impact on Native
Americans all across the South, moreover their journey often hard with many cruelties, but they
persevered and eventually settled in new places.
The causes of why the Native Americans were forced to walk is crucial. The trail was 12,000 miles
which took nine months to fully complete (Blackburn 53 64). They forced the Native American tribes
to walk the trail to open up land for the white settlers (McGill 1). John Ross had become the reconciler
for the Indians in Washington D.C., the federal government tried to take their land by bribery, fraud
and coercion but the tribes kept ignoring them. The Chief of the creek, Big Warrior, proposed $2,000
for the Cherokees to move to the west (Hicks 50). The displacement of the Native American tribes
may have seen this as an escape. The government, Treaty of New Echota, included about $5 million
for the tribes land and possessions they had abandoned (Blackburn 53 64). ... Show more content on

Homer s View Of The Traditional Greek View On Family
Homer has a strong opinion about the traditional Greek view on family and ancestry. Homer expresses
his disdain with the tendency to prioritize one s own glory over their family. Further, he ridicules the
unnecessarily large role that ancestral tradition plays in day to day life. Through the characters view
on family and ancestry Homer reveals the Greek s viewpoint on the afterlife, death, and the immortal
soul. Homer first portrays his view on ancestral tradition through the exchange between Glaukos and
Diomedes. He then makes his argument for family life through the dialogue between Hektor and
Andromache. Homer ties both ideas together with his revelation about belief in the afterlife. Homer
clearly prefers family and love over ancestral tradition and he makes his argument by embedding his
viewpoint within the dialogues.
Homer believes in the importance of family life and love, specifically the bond between living family
members. This is revealed in the exchange between Hektor and his wife Andromache. Hektor, the hero
of Troy, possesses the inhuman strength to turn the tide of the battle and as the Achaians push forward,
the city of Troy needs Hektor s battle skills. However, Hektor s wife, Andromache, begs her husband
not to enter the fray and advises him to draw your people up by the fig tree, there where the city is
openest to attack, and where the wall may be mounted (6.433 434). While Andromache gives Hektor
sound military advice, her real motivation behind

John Doe Arraignment
To begin with, since John has no legal status in America, could they just have sent him back to his
home country right? Nonetheless, the police officer should have stopped him when he realized that
John was incriminating himself and read him the Miranda Rights (Fifth Amendment). For this reason,
I believe that the Miranda Rights should be read when the arrest happens. That was the officer s first
mistake. Not reading him his rights could get the whole case thrown out or anything said before his
rights was read to him will be inadmissible in court. After taking John to the station and begin
questioning him, this is when he has the right to counsel (Sixth Amendment). The Miranda Rights
states that if you can t afford counsel then one would be appointed to you. John Doe indeed had the

reasonable time after arrest. An unreasonable delay violates the defendant s federal constitutional

of your cash then you can do it yourself without having to pay a professional. The only questions you
need to know before you get started are how much your time is worth to you, and how comfortable
you are with initiating and managing multiple credit profile related contacts via phone and email. You
will also need to be comfortable with reading and writing quasi legal documents. You can find
example correspondence online which can help you with this.

DNA, death investigations, and bullet holes. This word means so much more than just those few
examples of what forensics hold. Forensics is such a broad term it is scientific tests or techniques used
in connection with the detection of a crime , so with that given definition forensics could mean many
different things. You could go from someone who works as the forensic computer technician who can
hack into a sexual predator s hard drive in the matter of seconds to a forensic anthropologist who

This truth forms an essential link between the enforcement of law and protection of the public in the
administration of justice. Forensic pathology is clearly a crucial role in the justice system. You have to
be a little weird and crazy to have a passion for the kind of work that the coroners and M.E. go
through on an everyday basis. They use past knowledge to make decisions on how death occurred and
they come across many different postmortem changes in dead bodies. Every field is important in
forensics, but pathology advocates for truth and justice to dead

The True Face of Lowbrow Humor Essay
Following Chaucer s description of the Miller in the General Prologue, The Miller s Tale reveals a
man who is more complex than his appearance initially suggests. The Miller s Tale is a fabliau that
consists of events of cuckoldry, foolishness, and secrets (1720, 1718, and 1719). Given the bawdy
humor of his story, the Miller would seem to be crude and superficial. As the tale unfolds, it depicts
how the norms of society trap John s wife, Alison, in her marriage. Despite his fondness for vulgarity
and fraudulence, the Miller is surprisingly sympathetic toward Alison. In his attempt to outdo the
Knight, the Miller sacrifices decorum for the sake of entertainment, demonstrating his coarse and
rebellious nature. The Miller s bawdy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Similarly, the Miller s characters use guile as frequently as the Miller does. In their affair, both
Nicholas and Alison devise a plan to trick the jealous John. While speaking to John alone, Nicholas
warns him of a flood to come and states he must not waste words on the wise; however, Nicholas
tricks the so called wise carpenter and has intercourse with John s wife after John falls asleep (1727).
Furthermore, Absolom begs for a kiss from Alison, but she beard[s] him, another instance of bawdy
deceit (1730). Thus, the disposition toward treachery that Chaucer notes is evident in the Miller s
characters as they trick multiple people, actions which exemplify the Miller s immoral nature.
Although the Miller is a coarse and deceptive individual, he reveals a sympathetic nature in his tacit
approval of Alison s actions. Chaucer depicts the Miller as a big beefed yokel, who can break a door
by running at it with his head (1712). Because of these physical characteristics, most readers would
assume that he is a strong, dense, and churlish man. However, reflecting on Cato s words that man
should marry his like, the Miller notes that Alison is trapped in her marriage to a man older than she,
an insight that shows not only his empathy but also his intelligence (1720). Moreover, the Miller
portrays each man in a negative light throughout the tale but not Alison: he describes the

The Canada s Food Guide Essay
The Canada s Food Guide has been in place since 1942, and nearly a decade has passed since the
release of the current Eating Well with Canada s Food Guide (EWCFG) (Mortillaro, 2016). Critics
believe that the time has come for the revision of the second most downloaded document in Canada in
the interest of reflecting the changing lifestyles of Canadians (Mortillaro, 2016). At the time of its
launch during World War II, male female roles differed vastly, with stay at home moms preparing
home cooked meals. However, according to latest information provided by Statistics Canada, 69% of
households with families are dual earners today (Statistics Canada, 2015). The effect of dual earning
has taken its toll on Canadian food consumption patterns (Mortillaro, 2016). Consequently, the
existing food guide has received mixed reviews and immense criticism by several researchers, and has
even been declared obesogenic (Corby, 2007; Kondro, 2006; L Abbe Mahsa, 2015). This is
particularly disturbing because according to the 2004 Canadian Community Health Survey, 59% of
the adult population is overweight and 1 in 4 is obese; the numbers are even more alarming regarding
children and adolescents (Karmali et al., 2010). The cause of the obesity epidemic might be right at
our fingertips with the Unhealthy Food Guide that is imposed on Canadians. One strict change that
must occur to the food guide includes disassociating 100% fruit juices as vegetable and fruit sources,
and thereby removing

The four books that still exist are Liber abbaci, Practica geometriae, Flos, and Liber quadratorum.
Leonardo had written several other books, which unfortunately were lost. These books included Di
minor guisa and Elements. Di minor guisa contained information on commercial mathematics. His
book Elements was a commentary to Euclid s Book X. In Book X, Euclid had approached irrational
numbers from a geometric perspective. In Elements, Leonardo utilized a numerical treatment for the
irrational numbers. Practical applications such as this made Leonardo famous among his
contemporaries. Leonardo s book Liber abbaci was published in 1202. He dedicated this book to
Michael Scotus. Scotus was the court astrologer to the Holy Roman Emperor Fredrick II. Leonardo
based this book on the mathematics and algebra that he had learned through his travels. The name of
the book Liber abbaci means book of the abacus or book of calculating. This was the first book to
introduce the Hindu Arabic place value decimal system and the use of Arabic numerals in Europe.
Liber abbaci is predominately about how to use the Arabic numeral system, but Leonardo also covered
linear equations in this book. Many of the problems Leonardo used in Liber abacci were similar to
problems that appeared in Arab sources. Liber abbaci was divided into four sections. In the second
section of this book, Leonardo focused on

President Of The United States
His power, his passion, is the fabric of America. And it s woven by work ethic and dreams and drive
and faith in the Almighty, what a combination. (S, Palin) Donald Trump is powerful, persuasive and
risky. As a candidate for President of the United States, Trump stands strong to purported morals. His
campaign video depicts him as the ultimate candidate ; an individual is who has the ability to stand up
for middle class American s yet be strong enough to institute change, which the Obama administration
has been perceived as failing to do. However we are also able to see how Trump has used his power to
shape his ideal self into something he is not. Someone who uses codes and signifiers in his favour to
fabricate new ideas and conventions.
Donald Trump has a strident voice, but those who stand with him appear silent in stark contrast. The
reason for this being that Trump s campaign, even down to his fan base, is centred on oppression. His
goal is to appeal to middle class, white citizens who feel that they have been deprived of the American
Dream. That is; the ideal that every US citizen should have an equal opportunity to achieve success
and prosperity through hard work, determination, and initiative (Oxford Dictionaries). He targets this
subgroup and directs their resentment to the people who have tarnished this American Dream . For
example, Trump has voiced that he wants to deport all Mexicans and build a wall between the borders
demonstrating his strong motive to

ABSTRACT: Digital Watermarking is a technology which is used to identify the owner, distributor of
a given image. In recent years, digital watermarking plays a vital role in providing the appropriate
solution and various researches have been carried out. In this paper, an extensive review of the
literature related to the color image watermarking is presented together with compression by utilizing
an assortment of techniques. The proposed method should provide better security while transferring
the data or messages from one end to the other end. The main objective of the paper is to hide the
message or a secret data into an image which acts as a carrier file having secret data and to transmit to
the intention securely. The watermark can be extracted with minimum error. In terms of PSNR, the
visual quality of the watermarked image is exceptional. The proposed algorithm is robust to many
image attacks and suitable for copyright protection applications.
KEYWORDS: Watermarking, Discrete wavelet transform, Discrete Cosine Transform, PSNR, MSE.

How The Knutford Council Should Be Limited For Other Small...
In determining what response the Knutford Council should take in addressing the inappropriate usage
of electric hover boards on footpaths and in skate parks as well as the issue of hover board hacking
that permits hover boards to be used at higher speeds than intended by the manufacturer, the first step
is to determine the extent of the regulatory domain. Regulatory sphere or domain is the answer to the
question of who would be affected by the regulation of hover board usage in Knutford and who would
be administering the intended regulation. It also answers why and how we would be embarking on the
intended regulation and what said regulation would entail.
Though the Knutford council have identified hover boards as the most pertinent ... Show more content

In this regard a broader scope of regulation that encompasses the use of all small motorized
recreational vehicles on footpaths may be a more responsive form of regulation that would adapt to
the inevitable changes in technological trends. However, this expansion to cover all small motorized
vehicles may inadvertently affect the usage of other non recreational small motorized vehicles such as
electronic wheelchairs on footpaths. Other small electronically powered vehicles that are not intended
for recreational use do not present the same concerns identified by the Knutford Council as
problematic. Expanding the scope of regulation beyond Hoverboards thus presents the risk of
overregulation and risks affecting a population that was initially not targeted and reducing social
welfare overall.
In addition to the above there are further questions on the appropriate regulatory scope. Though the
regulatory issue at hand is currently presented as a local problem that affects the residents of Knutford
and its surrounding areas, Hoverboard technology is one that has been adopted at national and
international levels. The use of Hoverboards would therefore not be limited to only Knutford and the
concerns raised may apply across the board. It is therefore not inappropriate to consider that any
directive or regulation should have universal application across the nation. Again, though limiting the
issue to Knutford and its surrounding areas may present a regulatory

Analysis Of The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli
Mankind has never answered this age old question: Is man inherently good? There are different
arguments for both sides, however most would agree that humans should strive to be good.
Interestingly, Niccolo Machiavelli in his work The Prince would disagree. Written for the Medici
lords, The Prince offers advice on how to obtain and rule a principality. To do this, he must first
explain the nature of man and adjust the method of ruling them accordingly. Machiavelli believes
humans by nature are corrupt, so the Prince must also be corrupt to succeed. In order to prove
Machiavelli s opinion, it is first necessary to understand what he defines as success. Machiavelli

Therefore, success for Machiavelli is sustaining power over a principality. Next it must be proved that
Machiavelli believes men by nature are cruel and corrupt. When talking about the necessity of cruelty
in leaders, he says, a man who wants to make a profession of good in all regards must come to ruin
among so many who are not good (p.61). Here he seems to believe that the general populace is not
good. He does not allude to any choices that would cause this cruelty, so we can infer that he believes
humans by nature are corrupt. He discourses on qualities that are praised in a prince such as faith,
humanity, and honesty but laments that he cannot have them, nor wholly observe them, since human
conditions do not permit it (p.62). These human conditions that Machiavelli refers to must be the
corruption of man, as there is no other reason for a prince to not observe these qualities. If men were
good, it would be obvious for a prince to rule with good virtues, but since they are not he must adjust
his morals to fit his people s. In addition to this, he teaches the prince to use one of two kinds of
combat when it comes to ruling the people: one with beasts and one with man. Having never
mentioned ruling animals before, the reader can conclude that he is referring to men who are wicked
by nature. He explains that one must use laws with man and force with

Let s Build a Wall: An Analysis of German Preparations and How They Affected the Normandy Landings Germans preparedness (or unpreparedness) was a decisive part of the Normandy Invasion. Hitler had it right to send Rommel in to shore up the German western defenses, but The Desert Fox did not have enough time or enough power to make a big enough impact on the invasion. This would have remarkable repercussions on the outcome of the war. If the Germans had fought harder or better or smarter the Allies would not have been able to get a foothold. This was the German s equivalent to the Great Wall of China in the sense that it was supposed to keep the enemy out, but the similarity ends there. This was a modern defense network consisting of concrete bunkers, machine gun nests, and trenches (Trueman). Hitler also knew that these defenses may not be enough so he put one of his best generals in charge of his Atlantic Wall. This man was the desert fox, Erwin Rommel. Rommel knew that a big wall alone would not be enough to prevent the Allies from gaining their foothold. Artillery emplacements were supported with machine gun posts and other artillery emplacements were built inland to give the Wall some form of protection when the expected Allied landings took place (Truman). From his past experiences in Africa, the Desert Fox understood the importance of supporting Artillery with machine guns and vice versa. He also knew that the Allies would come with a wide variety of forces. So, Rommel too, experimented with a wide variety of defensive equipments. These included anti tank and anti vehicle obstructions that were strewn all along the coast of France (Trueman). Rommel s preparations did not stop here, however. The idea that the next step that a soldier takes could be his last is a terrifying thought. This fear was utilized by the Germans and many mines were added to the Atlantic Wall per Rommel s discretion. Six million mines were laid on beaches in Northern France (Trueman). This is an ... The intention is to research business leadership in the developing countries, and devise a new framework or strategy that can be used by businesses and education systems within developing countries and possibly other Asian countries. This framework would identify the qualities necessary to develop an appropriate leadership style to be an effective leader in organisations operating. This will be achieved by investigating the social and cultural environment and look at how these forces affect the business environment, and in particular the qualities of a good leader within the organisation. The research aims to fill a gap in the existing body of knowledge to do with leadership and management in different regions of the world. LITERATURE REVIEW Background Broadly speaking, leadership can be defined as a process in which an individual influences a group of individuals to work towards the achievement of a common goal or vision (Lussier, 1996; Northouse, 2001; Stogdill, 1974). Moreover, Bush and Coleman (2000) note that since most of what has been written about leadership draws upon western cultural models, it should be borne in mind that leadership might well be viewed differently in different cultures. The difference between leadership and management is vividly encapsulated in Bass s model of transformational and transactional leadership styles. Transformational leaders ... • 7. Comparison Of The Human Rights Act 1998 And Tort Law The Human Rights Act 1998 and Tort Law are seen to be together in overlapping ways as François du Bois explains. In this essay we will begin by looking at the introduction of the Human Rights Act, and the claims in negligence against public authorities. Then we will look at the different views as to the remedies, whether Tort law and the Human Rights Act, should be used together and developed together, or should be used separately in a claim in negligence against a public authority. The introduction of the Human Rights Act 1998, as Oliphant and Lunney describes it creates a new statutory remedy against public authorities for violating of the specified Convention rights . Section 7 of the act requires that any individual that brings a claim against public authorities must be a victim. A victim under the Human Rights Act refers to the person who could bring a case under the ECHR. Victims must be directly affected or be at risk of being directly affected by the act in questions. Victims can include...relatives of the victim where a complaint is made about death. . An example of this would be the case of Rabone v Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust in which Melanie had in the past attempted to commit suicide on several occasions. • 8. Mental Illness And Criminology Essay Criminology and Physical or Mental Illness Crime Crime is seen as any deviant act that is dangerous or harmful socially and is considered to be prohibited and punishable under laws of crime(Siegel, 2007). Deviant behavior includes a wide range of behaviors which are considered to be out of line with the social norms in a given society. It is deduced from this definition that criminal acts are deviant which a society considers harmful to them and prohibits them(Siegel, 2007). Sociological understanding of deviant acts is that they are rooted in a society s molding of these persons. Theory of Social psychology is based on the arguments that the inadequacies observed in social roles, norms self direction and poor role modeling contribute to criminal behaviors. The argument that people who commit criminal activities are physically or mentally ill can only be made where an understanding of crime s magnitude is beyond human cognition. Criminologist in the twenty first century have advanced the field of criminology and brought about a higher understanding of crimes. The understanding of human behavior does away with the abnormality of criminal actions and logical explanations are made. It is cognizable given the twenty first century theories of criminology that there are driving forces behind commitment of a criminal action(Siegel, 2007). Some of the genes may appear to be associated with the disorder in some ethnic groups and not in others, which would make it difficult to for us to say that a specific gene is associated with Schizophrenia in general population. This may be because predisposition for Schizophrenia is created by different combination and/or of genes in different populations interacting with certain environmental factors. As association studies always follow linkage studies which identify possible genomic regions or even specific candidate genes which contribute to the development of a genetically influenced disorder. Results from linkage studies depend on a variety of factors, including the presumption of the mode of inheritance, the involvement of genes whose effects are large enough to detect and the extent to which family members are diagnosed accurately as either affected or unaffected with a disorder in the schizophrenia spectrum. Phycoremediation And Environmental Pollution The rapid growth of human population and industrialization has lead to the environmental pollution and the world is facing problems with a wide variety of pollution (Kshirsagar, 2013). The release of wastewater poses serious environmental challenges to the receiving water bodies (De Bashan et al., 2002). Today, the demand for clean water is increasing worldwide and the main challenge of wastewater treatment is not only to produce clean water but it also support new developments (Velan and Saravanane, 2013). The process of bioremediation depends on the metabolic potential of microorganisms to detoxify or transform the pollutant, which is further dependent on accessibility and bioavailability (Bhatnagar and Kumari, 2013). Remediation can be enhanced by the addition of various microorganisms, called seeding or inoculation, to a polluted environment to promote increased rate of biodegradation (Antizar Ladislao et al., 2008). Phycoremediation is the use of micro or macroalgae for the removal or biotransformation of pollutants, including nutrients and toxic chemicals from wastewater (Olguin, 2003; Mulbry et al., 2008). • 30. The Importance Of Civil Engineering When you hear of the word engineering, what comes to mind? Do you think of a train engine rolling over the plains of South Dakota? Maybe you think of a bridge or a road? If you thought of either of those things, you are correct. Furthermore, Civil Engineering is all of these things and a little more. Civil engineering is arguably the oldest engineering discipline. It deals with the built environment and can be dated to the first time someone placed a roof over his or her head or laid a tree trunk across a river to make it easier to get across (Civil Engineering). Some of the first ever examples of the civil engineering was the roof and the bridge. Eventually, our knowledge and tools advanced to enhance the durability and aestheticism of roads, bridges, and buildings. In addition to roads and bridges, civil engineering also deals with planes, cars, and boats as well. In order to become a civil engineer or any job, for instance, you must study and become a perfectionist in that field. Studying in the school of engineering does not focus on just one subject of study. To put differently, to become a professional in the job of an engineer you must excel in mathematics. Evidence has been established that high daily exposure to benzene in both a time dose relationship and with dose and response with specific types of such as AML leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). However, it has been noted by Pagano et al., that results on the environmental factors contain inconsistent results due to the design of the study, uncontrolled bias, and the variance in the populations at risk (2006). Environmental factors such as socioeconomic status, alcohol consumption, and smoking are known contributors to the development of leukemia (Pagano et al., 2006). John Ross had become the reconciler for the Indians in Washington D.C., the federal government tried to take their land by bribery, fraud and coercion but the tribes kept ignoring them. The Chief of the creek, Big Warrior, proposed $2,000 for the Cherokees to move to the west (Hicks 50). The displacement of the Native American tribes may have seen this as an escape. Homer expresses his disdain with the tendency to prioritize one s own glory over their family. Further, he ridicules the unnecessarily large role that ancestral tradition plays in day to day life. Through the characters view on family and ancestry Homer reveals the Greek s viewpoint on the afterlife, death, and the immortal soul. Homer first portrays his view on ancestral tradition through the exchange between Glaukos and Diomedes. He then makes his argument for family life through the dialogue between Hektor and Andromache. Homer ties both ideas together with his revelation about belief in the afterlife. Homer clearly prefers family and love over ancestral tradition and he makes his argument by embedding his viewpoint within the dialogues. Homer believes in the importance of family life and love, specifically the bond between living family members. This is revealed in the exchange between Hektor and his wife Andromache. Hektor, the hero of Troy, possesses the inhuman strength to turn the tide of the battle and as the Achaians push forward, the city of Troy needs Hektor s battle skills. However, Hektor s wife, Andromache, begs her husband not to enter the fray and advises him to draw your people up by the fig tree, there where the city is openest to attack, and where the wall may be mounted (6.433 434). The True Face of Lowbrow Humor Essay Following Chaucer s description of the Miller in the General Prologue, The Miller s Tale reveals a man who is more complex than his appearance initially suggests. The Miller s Tale is a fabliau that consists of events of cuckoldry, foolishness, and secrets (1720, 1718, and 1719). Given the bawdy humor of his story, the Miller would seem to be crude and superficial. As the tale unfolds, it depicts how the norms of society trap John s wife, Alison, in her marriage. Despite his fondness for vulgarity and fraudulence, the Miller is surprisingly sympathetic toward Alison. In his attempt to outdo the Knight, the Miller sacrifices decorum for the sake of entertainment, demonstrating his coarse and rebellious nature. The Miller s bawdy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Similarly, the Miller s characters use guile as frequently as the Miller does. In their affair, both Nicholas and Alison devise a plan to trick the jealous John. While speaking to John alone, Nicholas warns him of a flood to come and states he must not waste words on the wise; however, Nicholas tricks the so called wise carpenter and has intercourse with John s wife after John falls asleep (1727). Furthermore, Absolom begs for a kiss from Alison, but she beard[s] him, another instance of bawdy deceit (1730). Thus, the disposition toward treachery that Chaucer notes is evident in the Miller s characters as they trick multiple people, actions which exemplify the Miller s immoral nature. Although the Miller is a coarse and deceptive individual, he reveals a sympathetic nature in his tacit approval of Alison s actions. Chaucer depicts the Miller as a big beefed yokel, who can break a door by running at it with his head (1712). Because of these physical characteristics, most readers would assume that he is a strong, dense, and churlish man. However, reflecting on Cato s words that man should marry his like, the Miller notes that Alison is trapped in her marriage to a man older than she, an insight that shows not only his empathy but also his intelligence (1720). The Canada s Food Guide Essay The Canada s Food Guide has been in place since 1942, and nearly a decade has passed since the release of the current Eating Well with Canada s Food Guide (EWCFG) (Mortillaro, 2016). Critics believe that the time has come for the revision of the second most downloaded document in Canada in the interest of reflecting the changing lifestyles of Canadians (Mortillaro, 2016). At the time of its launch during World War II, male female roles differed vastly, with stay at home moms preparing home cooked meals. However, according to latest information provided by Statistics Canada, 69% of households with families are dual earners today (Statistics Canada, 2015). The effect of dual earning has taken its toll on Canadian food consumption patterns (Mortillaro, 2016). Consequently, the existing food guide has received mixed reviews and immense criticism by several researchers, and has even been declared obesogenic (Corby, 2007; Kondro, 2006; L Abbe Mahsa, 2015). This is particularly disturbing because according to the 2004 Canadian Community Health Survey, 59% of the adult population is overweight and 1 in 4 is obese; the numbers are even more alarming regarding children and adolescents (Karmali et al., 2010). • 49. How The Knutford Council Should Be Limited For Other Small... In determining what response the Knutford Council should take in addressing the inappropriate usage of electric hover boards on footpaths and in skate parks as well as the issue of hover board hacking that permits hover boards to be used at higher speeds than intended by the manufacturer, the first step is to determine the extent of the regulatory domain. Regulatory sphere or domain is the answer to the question of who would be affected by the regulation of hover board usage in Knutford and who would be administering the intended regulation. It also answers why and how we would be embarking on the intended regulation and what said regulation would entail. Though the Knutford council have identified hover boards as the most pertinent ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In this regard a broader scope of regulation that encompasses the use of all small motorized recreational vehicles on footpaths may be a more responsive form of regulation that would adapt to the inevitable changes in technological trends. However, this expansion to cover all small motorized vehicles may inadvertently affect the usage of other non recreational small motorized vehicles such as electronic wheelchairs on footpaths. Other small electronically powered vehicles that are not intended for recreational use do not present the same concerns identified by the Knutford Council as problematic. Expanding the scope of regulation beyond Hoverboards thus presents the risk of overregulation and risks affecting a population that was initially not targeted and reducing social welfare overall. In addition to the above there are further questions on the appropriate regulatory scope. Though the regulatory issue at hand is currently presented as a local problem that affects the residents of Knutford and its surrounding areas, Hoverboard technology is one that has been adopted at national and international levels. The use of Hoverboards would therefore not be limited to only Knutford and the concerns raised may apply across the board. It is therefore not inappropriate to consider that any directive or regulation should have universal application across the nation. Again, though limiting the issue to Knutford and its surrounding areas may present a regulatory ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 50. Analysis Of The Prince By Niccolo Machiavelli Mankind has never answered this age old question: Is man inherently good? There are different arguments for both sides, however most would agree that humans should strive to be good. Interestingly, Niccolo Machiavelli in his work The Prince would disagree. Written for the Medici lords, The Prince offers advice on how to obtain and rule a principality. To do this, he must first explain the nature of man and adjust the method of ruling them accordingly. Machiavelli believes humans by nature are corrupt, so the Prince must also be corrupt to succeed. In order to prove Machiavelli s opinion, it is first necessary to understand what he defines as success. Machiavelli believes that for a prince to be successful he must maintain rule over his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, success for Machiavelli is sustaining power over a principality. Next it must be proved that Machiavelli believes men by nature are cruel and corrupt. When talking about the necessity of cruelty in leaders, he says, a man who wants to make a profession of good in all regards must come to ruin among so many who are not good (p.61). Here he seems to believe that the general populace is not good. He does not allude to any choices that would cause this cruelty, so we can infer that he believes humans by nature are corrupt. He discourses on qualities that are praised in a prince such as faith, humanity, and honesty but laments that he cannot have them, nor wholly observe them, since human conditions do not permit it (p.62). These human conditions that Machiavelli refers to must be the corruption of man, as there is no other reason for a prince to not observe these qualities. If men were good, it would be obvious for a prince to rule with good virtues, but since they are not he must adjust his morals to fit his people s. In addition to this, he teaches the prince to use one of two kinds of combat when it comes to ruling the people: one with beasts and one with man. Having never mentioned ruling animals before, the reader can conclude that he is referring to men who are wicked by nature. He explains that one must use laws with man and force with ...
