The paper presents a novel algorithm for the recognition of 51 circular traffic signs using the number of peaks algorithm, achieving a 100% detection rate with an average detection time of 8 milliseconds. The algorithm processes image input by drawing crossing lines and calculating the number of peaks from pixel transitions, effectively distinguishing between various signs even in noisy environments. Future research aims to extend this technology to recognize signs of any shape and improve real-time performance in smart cars.
