BIODIVERSITY
 Concept : Different varieties of living
organisms present in a particular area is
called Biodiversity.
 They all share a common environment.
 All are depending on one another for many
things.
 The warm and humid tropical regions of the
earth, between the tropic of Cancer and the
tropic of Capricorn, are rich in diversity of
plant and animal life. This is called the region
of mega diversity

EVOLUTION
 Charles Darwin first described this
idea of evolution in 1859 in his book,
The Origin of Species.
 Due to the change in the
environment there occurs change in
the characteristics of living
organisms over a period of time.
 Evolution leads living organisms to
survive in the new environment.

 Hierarchy : All living organisms are
grouped into groups and subgroups.
 There are mainly 5 kingdoms of
organisms - WHITTAKER
 MONERA
 PROTISTA
 FUNGI
 PLANTAE
 ANIMALIA

SUB-GROUPS
Each kingdom is again
divided into:
 PHYLUM
 CLASS
 ORDER
 GENUS
 SPECIES
