What is Invertebrates Animals?
• Animals without backbones are called
invertebrates
What is vertebrates Animals?
• Animals with backbones are called
vertebrates.
5 classes of Vertebrates
• Fish
• Amphibians
• Reptiles
• Birds
• Mammals
Fish
Fish
Fish are the simpliest form of vertebrates. Their
body parts are adapted for life in water. The
bodies of fish are covered with scales. They
reproduce by laying eggs. Gills take in
oxygen from water.
Amphibians
Amphibians
Amphibians can live on land and in water. As
they grow, their gills disappear and lungs take
their place. They take oxygen in 2 ways,
either through lungs or skin.
Reptiles
Reptiles
. The body of reptiles are covered with scales
and hard body plates. Its skin is dry and cool.
Like a fish. It is a cold-blooded animal. All
reptiles have lungs. Many of them live on
land. Some live in water and others in desert.
Birds
Birds
All birds have pairs of wings. Although some
birds do not fly. Birds have two legs for
walking. Their bodies are covered with
feathers which keep them warm. They
reproduce by laying eggs.
Mammals
Mammals
- They are the most highly developed among
the groups of vertebrates. Their bodies are
covered with hair and furs. They have
mammary glands that produce milk with
which they use to feed their young.
Mammals reproduce by giving birth to live
young.
What are Invertebrates
Invertebrates are animals without backbones.
You may have seen many animals without
backbones. Most of these animals can take
care of themselves as soon as they hatched
from eggs. Invertebrates live and grow in
different ways.
Invertebrates
Insects
• Insects are the largest group of invertebrates.
Insects are animals with six legs. They use
their legs in moving and holding their food.
Most of them have one or two pairs of wings,
which they also use in moving about from
place to another.
