CNC milling machines have movement of the table and spindle controlled by a program to automatically cut workpieces. There are generally 2 types - 3-axis and 5-axis milling machines. The CNC milling machine functions similarly to a conventional milling machine but works automatically according to a program code. It has mechanical, electrical, and controller components including the table, spindle, monitor, control panel, tool magazine, and coolant hose. Proper maintenance of parts like ball screws, pneumatic cylinders, filters, and coolant tanks is important for safe operation.

Principle and Operations Output (Command Signal) Input (Confirmation Signal) As Input Data Electrical energy • Numerical data and command code are distributed to control system as input data • The data is changed to command signal by control system • The command signal is distributed to electrical component • Electrical component gives confirmation signal to control system • The command signal is converted to electrical energy by electrical component • Electrical energy is distributed to mechanical component and it makes mechanical component move as command from control system.

- 13. Maintenance There are some parts of the CNC milling machine must be maintained regularly. Ball screw lubricant Pneumatic cylinder lubricant Filter fan Coolant tank NEXT

Ball screw lubricant • Check oil on the lubricant tube every day • Ensure that the Lubricant must be distributed from the tube to the table of machine • Use Vactra Oil no 2, ESSO K68, and Shell T68 to fill the lubricant tube If the distribution system of lubricant having a problem, the table of machine will move without lubricant and it makes ball screw and bearing were broken.
- 15. Pneumatic cylinder lubricant • Check oil on the lubricant tube regularly. • Check the channel from the tube to anticipate leak. • Use hydraulic oil No.32 If the oil on the lubricant tube was empty , it makes the frictioned component is easy to corrosion and worn
- 16. Filter fan • Check and clean the filter fan from the dust every day. • Use the air gun to clean the filter fan. If to much dust on the filter, the fan will fail to cool the panel room and it makes hardware in panel room wiil overheat and be damaged
- 17. Coolant tank If to much soft chip on the coolant tank, the drain out of the the coolant tank will clogged up and the coolant can’t out of the inlet and it makes workpiece and cutter were broken • Check quality and quantity of the coolant regularly (min. 2 times in a month)

CNC milling safety • Use standard working clothes • Use safety shoes and safety glasses • Don’t approach the machine when auto tool change is • Don’t change tool when magazine tool is working • Don’t clean the table of machine when the machine is working. • Don’t touch the chip without wearing gloves • Don’t touch rotating parts of the machine • Don’t use accessories
