3. GENDER COMPLEMENTARITY
What is Gender Complementarity?
❑ Gender complementarity is the
relationship between men and
women, whose different
sexuality finds completion in
their spousal union: “Male
and female God created
them” (Genesis 1:27).

marriage, as God declared:
“It is not good for the man
to be alone” (Genesis 2:18).
❑ Excluded are those called to
single blessedness and
consecrated life, or who have
lost their spouse.

1. PHYSICAL LEVEL: The
sexual organs of men and
women were created paired
to provide intimacy and
procreation.
2. SPIRITUAL LEVEL: The
intellectual and emotional
faculties of men and women
are designed to be
harmoniously interactive.
Men’s cold rationality, brutal
strength, and wild passions,
are tamed by women’s warm
intuition, loving kindness,
and prudent judgment.

7. SPOUSAL LOVE
What is Spousal Love?
❑ Spousal love is the intimate relationship of benevolence
between husband and wife, which ought to be exclusive,
procreative, and everlasting.
❑ Spousal love is
the climax of
creation for two
reasons: first,
because it
bestows
absolute
happiness upon
the couple;
second, because
it perpetuates
the gift of life.
The plants are essential for all
living beings.

9. CHASTITY
What is Chastity?
❑ Chastity is the virtue of exercising
sexuality according to God’s will.
❑ Every baptized person is
called to chastity in accordance
to his state of life: the spouses,
by being faithful and intimate with
each other; the single or
consecrated, by loving in a special
manner God and their neighbor.
❑ Chastity requires prayer,
discipline, and self-sacrifice.
Such as for Joseph, who resisted
the advances of Potiphar’s wife by
means of faith and self-
determination (cf. Gen. 39:6-10).

10. CHASTITY
What is the difference between Chastity and Celibacy?
CHASTITY: It is the
exercise of sexuality in
accordance with the
divine will; it is required
of all Christians, either
married or single.
CELIBACY: It is the
pledge of remaining
unmarried for the Lord; it
is reserved for the
religious, the clergy, or
the single blessed.

11. CHASTITY
What are the two purposes of Sexuality?
❑ Sexuality was created by God for intimacy and procreativity, and
must be practiced with chastity.
❑ The virtue of chastity, which concerns both physical and spiritual
activities, requires healthy friendships and a lively prayer life.
❑ A chaste person is necessarily in God’s grace; as Jesus said:
“Blessed are the pure of heart for they shall see God” (Mt 5:8).

12. ADULTERY
What is Adultery?
❑ Adultery, or extra-marital sex, is the carnal relationship
with a married person. It is a grave sin because it betrays
the marriage vows, undermines the stability of the family, and
compromises the welfare of children.
❑ Jesus declared:
“Whoever
divorces his wife
causes her to
commit adultery,
and whoever
marries a
divorced
woman
commits
adultery”
(Matthew 5:32).

14. FORNICATION
What is Fornication?
❑ Fornication, or pre-marital
sex, which is the carnal
union between unmarried
persons, gravely contradicts
the two purposes of sexuality,
which are the good of the
spouses and the generation of
children.
❑ Those who are only civilly
married, or who are live-in
partners, are also guilty of
fornication; because they
ought to be committed for life
through the Sacrament of
Marriage before having
intercourse.

ABORTION:
About 40 million
babies are
aborted every
year as a
consequence of
fornication, to
escape social
shame or
financial losses.
SINGLE
MOTHERHOOD:
Although they
should be
accepted with
love, single
mothers may have
difficulties in
forming a
complete family.
SEXUALLY
TRANSMITTED
DISEASES:
Short-time
relationships and
multiple partners
highly increase
the dissemination
of STDs and
AIDS.
TEEN
PREGNANCY:
About 10% of
mothers are
underage,
affecting their
studies, emotional
health, career
opportunities, and
a stable family.

What is Rape?
❑ Rape, which is the sexual assault of a person without her
consent, is an atrocious crime that deeply wounds the
physical and emotional integrity of a person for life.
❑ The victims of rape do not always report the crime for fear of
reprisal or social shame; also because majority of cases
occurs within households and among relatives.

17. RAPE & INCEST
What is Incest?
❑ Incest is a sexual act done
among family members
and close relatives.
❑ Inbreeding is condemned
because it corrupts family
relationships, and
increases the risk of
genetic disorders for the
children.
❑ St. Paul prescribed the
excommunication for this
grave offense, as he
commanded: “A man living
with his father’s wife must
be delivered to Satan for
the destruction of the flesh”
(1 Corinthians 5:1,5).

What is Homosexuality?
❑ Homosexuality is the sexual attraction between persons of
the same gender.
❑ Although this sexual deviation has been present since time
immemorial, nowadays it has reached epidemic
proportions, involving an estimate 5% of people worldwide.

never inherit the
kingdom of God” (1
Corinthians 6:9-10).

21. PEDOPHILIA
What is Pedophilia?
❑ Pedophilia, or child sexual
abuse, is any form of carnal
offense done by an adult
to a minor; it is always a
criminal offense, even with
the minor’s permission,
because persons below
eighteen years of age are
legally unable to consent.
❑ The most damaging form of
pedophilia is done by
parents, educators, and
clergy, because it
undermines the minors’
trust into family, society
and Church.

22. PROSTITUTION
What is Prostitution?
❑ Prostitution is the practice of engaging in sexual acts in
exchange for money or other forms of compensations. It
involves about 13 million prostitutes, with annual revenue
over $100 billion.
❑ Sex trafficking is strongly condemned by St. Paul: “Do you
think I can take parts of Christ’s body and join them to the
body of a prostitute? Never!” (1 Corinthians 6:15).

What is Pornography?
❑ Pornography is the representation of sexual acts done
for gratification and profit. It is estimated that 70% of
men and 20% of women watch lewd material once a week.
❑ Pornography is responsible for depression, social isolation,
decreased productivity, financial losses, and sexual crimes;
as well as the disintegration of family and social values.

25. CYBERSEX
What is Cybersex?
❑ Cybersex is a virtual encounter in which people, connected
remotely via computer network or mobile phones, engage
into sexual activity by means of messages, calls, or webcam.
❑ Cybersex has
reached epidemic
proportions, with
millions of people
involved. Cordova,
Cebu, was
discovered as a
world-renowned
center of cybersex,
with thousands of
children forced into
it by their own
parents.

26. CYBERSEX
What are the pros and cons of Cybersex?
PROS: Cybersex is promoted
as the safest way to fulfill
sexual desires without
engaging into real life
activities, avoiding the risk of
sexually transmitted
diseases and unwanted
pregnancies.
CONS: Cybersex destroys
spousal intimacy and
procreativity, degrades
human persons as means to
sexual pleasure, and brings
pedophilia and sexual
addiction at an abysmal level.

27. MASTURBATION
What is Masturbation?
❑ Masturbation, which is the
deliberate stimulation
of the genital organs, is
against the proper use of
sexuality, which implies
love for the spouse and
opening to the gift of life.
❑ Masturbation is
intrinsically sinful;
nevertheless, the
individual culpability
may be lessened by his
affective immaturity, force
of acquired habit,
conditions of anxiety, or
other psychological or
social factors.

29. ARTIFICIAL BIRTH CONTROL
What is Artificial Birth Control?
❑ Artificial birth control is
any product, procedure,
or practice, which uses
man-made or unnatural
means to prevent
pregnancy, such as
condom, pills,
sterilization, or
contraception.
❑ Married couples using
artificial means of birth
control for purely selfish
reasons betray the
mission received from
God, who said: “Be
fruitful and multiply”
(Genesis 1:28).
Systematic
and
universal birth
control has
dramatic
social
consequences.

31. NATURAL FAMILY PLANNING
Why is Natural Family Planning allowed?
❑ The natural family planning, which consists in
refraining from sexual activity during the woman’s
fertile period, is morally acceptable because it abides
by the biological laws created by God.
❑ Married women
must determine
their particular
fertile window
of their monthly
periods, by
observing their
body cycles and
consulting their
doctors.
