Common craft video assignment
- 1. Civics “Common Craft” Supreme Court Case Review You and a group of peers will create a video in the style of a “Common Craft” video. You will be assigned a specific Supreme Court case and be given class time to prepare your video. The video will then be posted to the class website and will be reviewed and commented on by your classmates. Essential Elements: • The entire video should be 3 to 5 minutes in length • Introduction: 10‐15 Seconds • Title Page: Computer Generated o Title of the video o Names of all group members • Body: 2‐4 minutes o Include graphics and drawings o Must contain specific details from the case o Must be clever and keep the audience’s attention • Conclusion: 10‐15 seconds o So what? Why is this important? In Class Today you will review your case with your group, making sure that everyone has a good understanding of the details. Then you will begin designing your “Common Craft” video. • Review the case, determine why it is important in U.S. History • Discuss the theme of your video o What will it look like? o What key elements will you include? o What images will you need to make it work? • Assign roles o Artists: gather images, either computer generated or hand drawn o Narrator(s): create and read the script o Researchers: gather any necessary information to fill in the gaps of the case. Your assigned reading provides only a brief overview, you will need more information. • Assign homework o Pictures (final drafts due on Wed/Thurs), research, writing a draft of the script In Class on the double period you will create a final draft of your script begin rehearsing your video. If you are ready to start shooting we can begin. In Class on Friday and Monday you will do a final run‐through and shoot your video. This is a quick project, so be sure that everyone is onboard and knows what his/her role is. In Class next Tuesday we will begin reviewing the videos as a class and taking notes on the information provided. Have fun!!!
