- 2. Be all ears • It means "eager and ready to listen". Go ahead and tell me everything. I'm all ears!
- 3. Be broke • It means "to have no money". I have to borrow some money from my dad. Right now, I'm broke.
- 4. Cost an arm and a leg • It means "very expensive". I'd really like a new car, but they all cost an arm and a leg.
- 5. Get the ball rolling • It means to start something, to get a process started. We've been trying to get the ball rolling on construction of a new playground.
- 6. Give someone a hand • It means "help". I want to move this desk to the next room. Can you give me a hand?
- 7. In/for ages • It means "for a very long time". Have you seen Joe recently? I haven't seen him in ages.
- 8. Know something like the back of your hand • It means "know something very, very well". If you get lost, just ask me for directions. I know this part of town like the back of my hand.
- 9. Sharp / on the dot • It means to be exactly on time. The bus will leave at 9 o’clock sharp/on the dot, so don’t be late or you’ll stay here!
- 10. Sick and tired of • It means "to hate something now, even though I may have liked it before". I'm sick and tired of my job! I think I should start looking for a new one.
