CompareNet – Benchmark service for oil industry

Have you ever faced these challenges?
      You would like to compare the performance and efficiency of your business with
         the industry average and the efficiency of your competitors as well, but the
         information available is limited and may not be reliable.

      The analysis of data is difficult and complicated, there are few possibilities
         for selection and reporting.

      The petrol station network shows a growth in turnover, but the results cannot
         be evaluated properly for lack of market data.

What does CompareNet offer to you?

CompareNet is a new benchmark service which offers a solution tailor-made to the special
demands of the oil industry.
Imagine that you can do your business planning or the evaluation of expenses and incomes
in possession of information that has not been available before.
You can compare the average data of petrol stations or groups of station formed according to
various features with the average market data from groups of stations selected according to the
same criteria.
You can do all of this with respect to data on liters, data on the turnover of shops and
catering, major operational costs or any predefined key performance indicators. All of the
necessary data is available and can be used any time and from any access point through a
simple web browser for a regular low monthly cost.

The setup and operation of the service is carried out by HostLogic Kft.
Hostlogic Kft. deals with the implementation and operation of SAP systems. It is the only company
in Central and Eastern Europe which has a certificate from SAP AG for the hosting of SAP
systems.

In the past few years we have successfully adapted the features provided by the cutting-edge
technology of SAP to the special demands of various industries.
We have developed our CompareNet benchmark service with the help of professionals who are
completely familiar with the retail businesses of petrol station networks. Our service provides
tailor-made solutions to meet the specific demands of the retail networks of oil companies.
Why is CompareNet good for you?

      apart from turnover in petrol, it includes the business data of shops, catering and
         other services, as well as the major operational costs; thus, you can prepare a compre-
         hensive and detailed analysis of business efficiency even on the level of individual stations ;
      applying the service does not interfere with the currently used dealer accounting
         systems (such as Eurodata), since it can be operated as their supplementary system;
      it is a solution that operates as a continuously available data storage, which stores data in
         a way that it can be structured and selected according to a wide range of criteria; this
         effectively supports analysis, planning and decision-making;
      it provides continuous online, web-based access to the system, which makes it possible
         to access the system from anywhere, anytime;
      apart from the data of your own system, you can see average market data as well, so
         the system can make comparisons, calculate differences, and define KPI values; this way
         you can benchmark the efficiency of your business against averages;
      the data can be presented in tables and graphic charts as well; the levels of analysis
         can be flexibly set and selected by the user, which makes the analysis quick and easy;
      the system is based on the solution of SAP BI, which ensures not only flexible data
         handling but also high-level data security.

The information that the CompareNet service is based on can be provided from the following
sources:

      monthly turnover data for product groups from the Head Office system, which unites cash
         register systems;
        data on major operational costs from the ERP (SAP) system of the corporation;
      the same data on major operational costs from the offices responsible for the account-
         ing of petrol stations, which makes it possible to do more accurate cost analysis, in the
         case of shared costs applied in the CODO business model, as well.

How does CompareNet work?
Dashboard interface. "A Petrol" is the demo oil company.
With a simple mouse click you can check the data on shops and
catering, services and operational costs.
With the filters seen on the left-hand side you can further select the
data. Comparisons of amounts and volumes for given periods,
which show how the turnover of the selected types of stations
relates to the same types of stations on the market.

In the present report the data given in the last column is red,
because the results for the user doing the query are negative.
The figures would be green if the data for the user's own network
was better than the market average of those stations that have
been involved in the query.

The report above can be specified further by separating, for
example, motorway and regular road stations. In this case both
the network average and the market average show the average
turnover of these stations.
Comparison of base periods with actual periods. The nature of differences (pluses or minuses)
is also indicated by the colours. Besides the quantity figures we have also chosen the indexes here,
for example, the ratio of petrol and diesel and the ratio of the different types of fuel bench-
marked against total turnover.
With a mouse click we can have access to cost figures and the index numbers formulated from
them, for example, common charges or wages. The setting of these indexes or any KPI indexes
used by the oil company is optional: only the particular company can have access to these, through
the web interface put together according to its specific demands.

In the first line of this example, on green background, the index for tracking market changes
shows -0.2%. This means that in the chosen period wage costs decreased by 3.5% in a particular
type of the company's own petrol stations, while the market average for the same type of stations
decreased by 3.8%. Thus, in the company's own network wage costs show a smaller increase than
the market average.
