COMPLETE GUIDE ON
WRITING A GOOD
DISSERTATION ON
MICROBIOLOGY
BASIC RULES FOR WRITING A DISSERTATION
Search for the information you can use to back up and prove your theories.
Collect and examine the literature in your field of study.
Traditional structure of a dissertation comprises: research proposal or
introduction/literature review and methodologies/results and
discussion/conclusion.
Write an informative introduction/research proposal to present how you’re
going to explore the particular topic. Include information as to why you chose
that particular subject.
Results and discussions/conclusion: explain the process of the research and
experiments you have run, and the results you obtained from your tests. Just sum
up the whole purpose of writing a dissertation paper on your topic.
Literature/methodology section: use a literature review to explain the
substantial facts, viewpoints and your understanding on the topic; explain
why you’ve chosen quantitative or qualitative methods and describe the
research methods you used.

5 MUST-FOLLOW RULES FOR WRITING A
DISSERTATION ON MICROBIOLOGY
Select the field of study to work on. Microbiology can be discussed as related
to bacteriology, mycology, protozoology and psychology, so obviously you
can consider what branch or aspect you wish to focus on.
Focus on the positive effects microbiology has upon development and
research of the following areas: medicine, agriculture, fundamental research,
genetic engineering, environmental science, pharmaceutical industry and food
and drink production.
Make connections with the past contradictions: the microscope, a device
used to study microorganisms, is said to be invented in the 1590s, but there is no
reliable information on when exactly it was created and by whom. Perform your
own research to reveal the truth or provide your own assumptions.
Focus on the role of microbiology in the life of a human being: not all
microorganisms are dangerous! The cure and prevention of the ailments caused
by bacteria or fungi are possible only due to the microbiology.
Human skin houses trillions of billions of bacteria on it (a square centimeter of our
skin is covered by 100,000 bacteria!) Provide your own view on what would
happen if all bacteria in the world were removed.

5 IDEAS FOR THESIS STATEMENTS FOR WRITING
A DISSERTATION ON MICROBIOLOGY
01
Scientists make predictions studying the potential development of the viruses. To
do so, they actually “invent” viruses, which might be dangerous to the mankind.
In a food microbiology, bacteria, such as probiotics, are crucial for the production
of foods such as yogurt, bread, cheese, beer, etc. However, microorganisms can
also become pathogenic ones.
In the 18th century, many people believed that living organisms could appear all of
a sudden from any organic matter, but multiple experiments proved that life never
arises from non-living matter spontaneously.
The study of microorganisms has already prevented many life-threatening
ailments, but not all existing pathogenic bacteria and toxins are understood.
The study of microorganisms and virus prevention programs have backside. Every
time scientists find out how to fight one virus, it transforms to another, more fierce
form.

5+ INTERESTING FACTS FOR A DISSERTATION
ON MICROBIOLOGY

Human skin houses trillions of billions of bacteria that our naked eye is unable to
see. A square centimeter of our skin is covered by 100,000 bacteria.
When micro-creatures were first discovered through the eyes of microscope,
they were considered to be created by non-living matter (The spontaneous
generation theory of Charles Darwin).
The first soft cheeses appeared thanks to the nomadic tribes of the
Mediterranean, which used the stomachs of calves to carry their milk as they
moved from place to place. The milk was curdled by rennin produced in a calf's
stomach, and together with the gentle rocking, thickened thus became the first
soft cheeses.
The microscope is said to be invented in the 1590s, however, there is no reliable
information on when exactly it was created. Historians firmly believe the inventor
to be Hans Lippershey, though there seems to be contradictions on this opinion.
If 10-12 grams of a single bacterium is allowed to reproduce within 20 minutes
again and again, in two days, it would grow so much that its weight would be
4000 times heavier than Earth’s.
