Meaning of Knowledge
Knowledge is familiarity, awareness or under-
standing of some one or something
 Information obtained through sensory perception to form
concepts
 Thinking with the help of concepts
 One’s knowledge in an academic filed
 Knowledge can refer to theoretical or practical understanding of a
subject.
Development of Knowledge
One of the salient features that differentiate man from
animals is the gift of knowledge.
Authoritative knowledge human knowledge gets
endorsed only through the authorities
Revealed knowledge sages and saints were blessed
the Vedas, Bhagavad-Gita, Bible, Holy Koran.
CONCEPT OF FIRM KNOWLDGE
 Some professors may have in depth knowledge in their
subjects , but may not be good in teaching.
 Only few teachers have high level of proficiency in
subject knowledge as well as in communication skills.
 They are considered as having FIRM KNOWLEDGE or
SOLID KNOWLEDGE.
THREE DOMAINS 0F ‘FIRM
KNOWLEDGE’
PEDAGOGICAL KNOWLEDGE
 Understanding of how to create class room environments
that facilitate students’ learning include the use of ICT
(Information Communication Technology)
 Understanding students ,particularly about how they learn
and how to organize teaching to support their learning.
DISIPLINE KNOWLEDGE
 Teacher should have on in-depth knowledge in the
subject areas of the discipline
 Organize the subject content sequentially to be helpful
for further inquiry and suitable for explaining the subject
matter in the content.
 Ability to use the language appropriate to the specific
academic discipline .
Knowledge of the specific subject
 Knowing how student learn a particular subject area
 Having the skills to arrange the subjects content
sequentially and present them with suitable example and
instructional aids like charts and models.
 Knowledge of available quality curriculum materials.
Objective knowledge
 Objective knowledge is the one that is not affected
by individual’s like and could be established by
scientific methods.,
IMPERSONAL AND DIVERSE KNOWLEDGE
The information available in internet is uploaded by
many people and we cannot say they are true and
authentic.
Dialogical knowledge
 Teaching through dialogue encourage children to learn
speech and expands their sensory inputs.
 MKO(Most Knowledgeable Other)
SUBJECTITVE KNOWLEGD
The knowledge one gets through his senses will be
subject.
On the other hand, the knowledge obtained only senses
perceptions will be subjective.
