This document presents a fault diagnostic algorithm for detecting and classifying open-circuit and short-circuit faults in the switching components of matrix converters, particularly beneficial for driving permanent magnet synchronous motors. The method relies on monitoring the voltages and currents of the switches to evaluate the trans-conductance of each transistor, comparing these values to nominal values to identify faults. Key advantages include rapid fault detection, ease of implementation, and independence from the modulation strategy, allowing for concurrent detection of multiple faults.
