Levels of Constructor Certification
Associate Constructor (AC) Level 1 | An individual who meets specific
educational and/or experiential requirements and passes an eight-hour
comprehensive examination on the fundamentals of the management
of the construction process.
Certified Professional Constructor (CPC) Level 2 | An individual who
meets specific educational and/or experiential requirements and
passes a four-hour comprehensive examination on the application of
the management of the construction process
To qualify to take the 8-hour AC examination, one must
meet at least one of the following:
– Be within 12 months of graduation of an accredited 4-year
CM Program
– 4 years of qualified construction experience
– 4 years of combined qualifying construction education and
experience
Examination consists of 300 questions and is
administered twice a year at over 100 sites
Can be offered at other times as needed and approved
by the Commission

To qualify to take the 4-hour online CPC examination an
individual must meet one of the following:
– Currently hold the AC designation and have 4 additional years
of qualified experience
– Non-ACs can qualify with 8 years of qualified experience or 8
years of combined experience and education
– All CPC candidates must have documented at least 2 years in
which they were in a position of overall responsibility for the
delivery of a construction project or portion of a major project
Examination consists of 175 questions and is administered
online twice a year at over 100 sites
Can be offered at other times as needed and approved by
the Commission

Development Requirements
to Maintain Certification
• Both AC and CPC certifications are accredited by the
American National Standards Institute
• Owners and public entities realize the benefits of CPC
certification:
– Clemson, Texas A&M Universities include language citing a
preference for companies who have CPCs as part of their project
management teams in Requests for Qualifications and/or Request
for Proposals
– Oklahoma and Texas contractor licensing board recognize the
CPC as acceptable to perform construction management work in
their respective states
– Pursuing acceptance of the CPC by various segments of the
Federal government
National Recognition of Constructor Certification
• The CPC certification is rapidly becoming recognized
as the professional qualification for constructors that is
equivalent to licensing of architects and engineers.
• The AIC-CCC Constructor Certification process is the
only national construction certification that covers all
types of project delivery and contract methods for both
general and specialty contractors.
National Recognition of Constructor Certification
• Over 25,000 individuals have taken the
Level I examination and 1,200 have
taken the Level II examination.
• Exams administered at over
100 locations, many of which are
Universities.
• Over 2,500 active Associate
Constructors and 1,000 active Certified
Professional Constructors
• AC exam utilized by the US Army
Engineer School
Growth of the Program
“Provide a list of the key personnel that will be assigned to the
project along with their experience and some assurance of their
ability to achieve the project goals. At a minimum, the key personnel
include the proposed project pre-construction manager (and any key
pre-construction specialists, including estimator), project
superintendent, project manager, project director, and executive in
charge.
Summary resumes of key personnel shall include education,
professional certifications, licenses and affiliations (e.g.
Professional Engineer, Registered Architect, American Institute of
Constructors CPC and/or AC, etc.) and relevant project
experience. Increased consideration will be given to firms that
propose staff with these professional certifications.”
