This Could Have Been
Prevented….Right?
Hazard = Slippery Floors
I CHALLENGE YOU!
Jot down 3 ideas on how this workplace hazard
could be reduced or eliminated.
Carlos was walking through the employee lounge and
slipped on grease that had spread from the kitchen.
These slippery floors can cause harm to workers.
Possible solutions
to this problem
are. . . .
Did you come up with more?
•Put out “Caution” signs
•Clean up spills quickly
•Install slip resistant flooring
•Use floor mats
•Wear slip-resistant shoes
•Install grease guards on equipment to keep grease off
the floor.
I got
this!
Your best control measure is to
REMOVE THE HAZARD.
If you cannot completely eliminate
a hazard, GOOD SAFETY POLICIES
can reduce your exposure to
hazards.
Finally, using PERSONAL
PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) is
the least effective way to control a
hazard but should be used if that’s
all you have.
Did you come
up with any of
these?
Remove the
Hazard
• Install slip
resistant flooring
• Floor mats
• Add grease
guards
Work Policies
• Post Caution
Signs
• Clean up spills
quickly
PPE
• Wear slip
resistant shoes
Looks like you did!
Here are more scenarios that might work
in other examples
Remove the
Hazard
• Use safer chemicals & get
rid of hazardous ones
• Store chemicals in locked
cabinets away from work
areas
• Use machines instead of
doing jobs by hand
• Have guards around hot
surfaces
Work Policies
• Safety training on how to
work around hazards
• Regular breaks to avoid
fatigue
• Assigning enough people
to do the job safely
PPE
• Gloves, steel-toed shoes,
hard hats
• Respirators, safety glasses,
hearing protectors
• Lab coats or smocks
Now it’s your turn to give it a try. When you succeed, you’ll be able to level up!
Read the instructions for your EXPERT Mission. GOOD LUCK!
