A message, image or feature hidden in a
video game, film and other platforms.
They’re called easter eggs because they
mimic the idea of a tangible one – the
audience have to ‘hunt’ or ‘search’ for
them

When you type ‘askew’ into Google, it really does go
skewed!
• From a marketing perspective, easter
eggs have several noteworthy benefits
such as:
• Delighting customers (with unique UX)
• Humanizing your brand (by showing
personality)
• Increasing brand awareness
• Boosting site traffic
• Increasing user engagement

I associate black, pink and white with BBC Three as a result.
The branding is clear and concise and available to view
across all platforms.
BBC Three’s Colour palette is consistent and
iconic (to me anyway):
• Is it maintained throughout?
• Is it iconic?
• Is it recognisable?
• It is easily distinguishable?
It’s particularly important to
consider that your documentary
and your website should have
very similar conventions.
Producers carefully select codes
and conventions which work well
together to create a distinctly
identifiable brand – this is mostly
maintained throughout the colour
palette and range of shots.
I will ensure I stick to this by using a consistent colour
palette, a consistent layout to accompany my website
and by using a varied amount of shots throughout my
website/video, but the variety will be the same. For
example, I will incorporate a close-up shot as the
establishing shot for both the website and the video.
It’s important to consider whenproducing these media texts:
• Does the website/video have the same feel?
• If so/not, why?
• What is common/uncommon between the texts and is this effective/should
this be fixed?
• It’s important to consider background colour, layout, the complexity of your
website
• Do the documentary and the video both have a specific purpose? How can
you tell? Is it meant to inform? Educate?
• It’s also important to keep an element of difference between the two texts. For
example, don’t put a similar easter egg on both of the videos as this will
decrease its intended effect
