Sigmund Freud and Alfred Adler were early pioneers in psychology who developed differing
personality theories. While both were educated in Vienna and colleagues initially, they had a falling
out due to personality clashes and disagreements over their theoretical approaches. Freud focused on
unconscious drives and sexuality as formative influences, while Adler emphasized social influences
and the drive for power/superiority. They prescribed different therapeutic interventions based on their
divergent views of personality development and psychopathology.
