How to Improve Your Website Speed
[Written by Ted Politidis, Core Web Vitals Fixer, Seasoned SEO]
NB: This article is focused on WordPress but it can also apply to PHP/HTML pages.
Improving the #speed of a web page is essential for providing a better
#userexperience, as well as improving your website’s #searchrankings. Here are
some tips to help with your #speedoptimization:
1.Optimize images #imageoptimization: Large image files can significantly
slow down a web page. Use image compression tools to reduce the file size
of your images without compromising quality.
2.Minimize HTTP requests: The more HTTP requests a web page makes, the
longer it takes to load. Minimize the number of HTTP requests by combining
CSS and JavaScript files into a single file. Minimize CSS and JavaScript files:
Minify your CSS and JavaScript files to remove unnecessary white space and
comments, reducing the file size and improving load times.
3.Use a content delivery network (#cdn): NB: Not needed in most modern
servers. A CDN stores your website’s files on multiple servers worldwide,
ensuring that users can access your website from the server that is closest
to them.
4.Enable #caching: Caching allows your web page to load faster by storing
static resources such as images and CSS files on the user’s computer.
Research the web to find a reliable plugin (Not Litespeed, Autooptimize, WP-
Rocket, etc.)
5.Reduce server response time: A #slow server response time can
significantly affect your web page’s speed. Use a reliable hosting provider
and optimize your server’s configuration to reduce the response time.
6.Use a fast #dns provider: DNS lookup times can also affect your web
page’s speed. Consider using a fast DNS provider or hosting your DNS
records with a CDN.
7.Optimize web #fonts: Large web font files can also slow down your web
page. Use web-safe fonts or optimize your web fonts by reducing the
number of font weights and styles.
8.Defer external scripts pulled on the page i.e. Facebook, Analytics, Google
Ads, chat widgets, and tracking scripts. Speed up the back end. Note that
most of the speed optimizers ignore that part. Speeding up the backend is
very useful when pulling posts/ pages/ products to edit and doing everyday
maintenance.
9.Another part that is left ignored is a cluttered #database. My approach is
to make the database lean and fit to respond faster to queries. A service
that stand-alone is valued at $700. The positive effects can be seen
immediately, the site renders the pages more quickly, and the speed score
is higher. Areas to optimize:
What I like to do with the database:
a. Remove the clutter from the database that #plugins leave behind when
removed.
b. Create #indexes that help the database respond faster to #queries.
c. Rationalize the #autoload table as instructed

#Autoloaded_Data
d. Remove #woocommercea clutter.
e. Reduces the multiple (unnecessary) calls to the database from the website
theme and plugins.
NB: The database work is very technical and requires advanced skills. To give you
an idea, just one table mishap could crash the site. Only experts with many hours
of experience in #mysql should touch the database. By implementing these tips,
you can significantly improve your web page speed and provide a better user
experience for your visitors.
