Course Title : Writing Skills
Main Textbook : Great Writing 2: Great Paragraph
Year/Semester : Year 2, Semester 1
Credit/Hours : 3 Credits/45 hours
Hours/Week : 3 hours/Week
II. COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces the process of paragraph development and teaches students how to master
their writing tasks by generating ideas and writing within a variety of rhetorical patterns. It
employs a wide range of writing models in carefully selected styles and offers clear explanations
and extensive practical activities to help students write great paragraphs.
III. COURSE OBJECTIVES
By the end of the course students are able to:
1. Improve their confidence and skills in writing in English,
2. Develop good written product which meets the strict academic standard.
3. Build and reinforce the writing skills needed for communication.
IV. LEARNING OUTCOMES
1. Knowledge: Understanding the concept of a paragraph and its various types of writing.
2. Critical thinking skills: Develop critical thinking and/or observation skills, and apply them to
the analysis of a problem or question related to the writing.
3. Interpersonal Skills: Be able to communicate via deferent types of writing purposes.
4. IT & ICT Skills: Use Power Point, LCD, Internet, and tape-recorder to research for their
studies.

V. COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1. Active participation in discussions and activities led by the instructor
2. Good computer literacy: Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
3. Awareness of plagiarism
4. Academic maturity and honesty
VI. TEACHING METHODOLOGY
Varieties of techniques have been used including lecturing, students-centered, teacher-centered
and others depending on the real practice.
The lecturer will use various methods of teaching including:
1. Lectures,
2. Group and whole discussion,
3. Team work,
4. Pair-work, and
5. Oral presentation
