We don't always have all of
the ideas. Use your
coworkers as resources. You
might find some really great
ideas that make sense for
your students. Also, look at
research and see what has
worked for other teachers
around the world.

I have had many crazy
ideas for things to try in
the classroom. Some have
worked and some haven't,
but I found that trying
was better than being
stuck in the same pattern
that isn't working.

being a risk-
taker
Be passionate about
what you are doing. You
are there to inspire
students to become
lifelong learners. If you
want them to love
learning, you have to
love what you are
teaching.

Editor's Notes

  • #4: *Pay careful attention to the video. What innovations do you see? Pay attention to things that may not be mentioned by those speaking. *What did you see? What did you notice? Talk it over in small groups. * On a post-it, write down one thing you noticed in the video that you could implement in your classes with the equipment you already have --
  • #5: What are some of the strangest activities you’ve tried to liven up your classes? Did any of them work? Why do you think the idea worked? How can you improve on it? - Share Did any of them fail? Why do you think the idea didn’t work? How can you adjust it to make it work?- Share
  • #6: Improv: Grade 5 classroom – Lesson is Math
  • #7: Kathy Gray said, “I learn because I teach.” If we are not teaching ourselves new things, if we are not learning from each other, how can we expect that our students will want to learn? Learning is part of the teaching process. The PLCs, the observations, the faculty page we have set up in the portal, the workshops we do in school or out of school, are all related to our new vision. Which part?
  • #8: To be a risk-taker also means getting out of the box. What was the latest risk you took? What would you change if you did it again? Write down one risk you’d be willing to take this year on a post-it note and place it on the posterboard.
  • #9: This year I will do _______________________________________ to restore / build on my passion for education.
