lesson
– Students know they enter
the classroom they have a
writing activity
– It gets their minds warm
and ready to learn

Creating Authentic Writing Materials for English Language Learners
Building Meaningful Vocabulary
Word Wall
Encourage students to
find English in their
environments and
bring it back to the
classroom.
• Words may be related to the curriculum unit or found words
students want to know the meaning.
• Use the words in bell work and everyday writing activities.
Experiential Learning for Writing
Experiential learning is the
process of learning through
experience, and is more
specifically defined as "learning
through reflection on
doing“(Kolb, 1984)

signs with a preposition
written on it.

preposition by “acting”
out the preposition and
taking a picture.

media and write
sentences to explain the
preposition.
