iTech Solutions because IBM i (AS/400’s) didn’t come with System Administrators.
                                                                                   0
In this session

We will cover what you need to know about the Hardware
Management Console, the Flexible Service Processor, and IBM i.
What they are, how we connect them together, the relationships
amongst one another, and how we perform upgrades to each. In
addition, you will learn basic maneuverability around the HMC as
   we discuss all these tasks.

Flexible Service Processor (FSP)
• The service processor runs on its own power boundary and
continually monitors hardware attributes and the environmental
    conditions within the server.
• The FSP is responsible for loading the PHYP code from Flash into
system memory and starting the system processors. FSP does
not deal directly with OS/400 SLIC nor IBM® AIX®/Linux® Open
Firmware/RTAS. FSP directly communicates only with the Real
Control Panel, PHYP, or the HMC.
• The Flexible Service Processor (FSP) firmware provides
diagnostics, initialization, configuration, run-time error detection,
    and correction.

Advanced Systems Management Interface (ASMI)
 • Service Processors Menus
 • Connect via https and your Browser through HMC 1 and HMC 2
     ports on i5 using addresses:
      Power5: 192.168.2.147 and 192.168.3.147

      Power6 & 7: 169.254.2.147 and 169.254.3.147

 • Perform general and administrator-level service tasks such
as reading service processor error logs, reading vital product
data, setting up the service processor, and controlling the
     system power.

7 Key Points to Take Home
 • Configure HMC before powering on i5
 • ETH0 on HMC configured as a private network with DHCP.
 • Remote Access to your HMC via HTTPS://ip-address
 • Update of software order is important
 HMC, FSP, LIC, and i5/OS

 • Use System Planning Tool to design your machine
 • Remember a Disruptive update to the FSP will immediately end all
partitions if they are still active
 • Backup your HMC to EXTERNAL media before an upgrade

  • 11. Flexible Service Processor (FSP) • The service processor runs on its own power boundary and continually monitors hardware attributes and the environmental conditions within the server. • The FSP is responsible for loading the PHYP code from Flash into system memory and starting the system processors. FSP does not deal directly with OS/400 SLIC nor IBM® AIX®/Linux® Open Firmware/RTAS. FSP directly communicates only with the Real Control Panel, PHYP, or the HMC. • The Flexible Service Processor (FSP) firmware provides diagnostics, initialization, configuration, run-time error detection, and correction.
