         questions from the rest.


1.   (a) Explain the working of token bus and token       5
           ring when a station accepts the token and
           then crashes immediately.
     (b) What are the important factors which can         3
          cause congestion in Computer Network ?
     (c) Explain the working of Sliding Window            5
           Protocol using an example.
     (d) Differentiate between simplex, half duplex       6
          and full duplex data communication. Also,
          give one example of each.
     (e) Which layer of CSI model handles                 4
          "Encryption" ? Explain any three important
          functions of this layer.
     (f) Define and differentiate between bit rate        2
          and baud rate.

(g) Explain the concept of circuit switching and     5
          packet switching. Also, state which one is
          better for voice communication and why ?


2. (a) How does LAN differs from MAN and                  6.
         WAN ? Explain briefly about different
         physical topologies used in LAN.
     (b) How does RARP resolves MAC address to            6
         an IP address ? Also, write how it differs
         from ARP.
     (c)   Differentiate between unicast, multicast and   3
           broadcast.


3.   (a) Explain, why flow control is handled at two      7
           different layers of OSI ? Name and list two
          other important features of these layers.
     (b) What is the purpose of multiplexing in data      8
          communication ? Define and differentiate
           between TDM and FDM with the help of a
          suitable diagram for each.


4.   (a) Draw and describe different fields of ATM     7
          Cell format. Also, list various functions
          performed by ATM Adaptation layer.
     (b) Compare between source routing and            4
          transparent bridges.
     (c) Explain the Count - to - infinity problem and 4
          solution in distance vector routing.

          switches and gateways in Computer
          Networks.
     (b) Explain the role and purpose of following   8
          fields of TCP header.
          (i) Data offset
          (ii) Sequence Number
          (iii) Acknowledgement
