INTRODUCTION
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this lesson, you should be able to:
•discuss the relevance of the course;
•learn about the basic concepts in computer
hardware servicing; and
•explore opportunities in computer hardware
servicing.
RELEVANCE OF COMPUTER HARDWARE
SERVICING (CHS)
CHS is the act of troubleshooting computer hardware problems.
Computer related skills are very essential nowadays. Through this course you will be able
to acquire knowledge and skills on the following:
1. USE OF HAND TOOLS – this will enable you to identify and utilize the tools needed for
a certain job.
2. PERFORM MENSURATION AND CALCULATION – you will be required to learn the
process of measuring and calculating.
3. PREPARING AND INTERPRETING TECHNICAL DRAWING – this part involves projections
to represent objects.
4. PRACTICING OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY PROCEDURES – you can prevent
hazards that might affect the environment.
After learning CHS, you will gain a lot of benefits:
• You can help your family or relatives with regards to computer hardware related issues.
• You can build your own business by opening a service shop.
• You can easily land on a job that needs this kind of service.
BASIC CONCEPTS IN COMPUTER HARDWARE
SERVICING (CHS)
1. THEORIES AND COMPETENCIES IN CHS
- Theories involves all the knowledge in technical specifications.
- Competencies includes actual hands-on of the required
competencies.
2. CAREER OPPORTUNITIES IN CHS
Aside from the concepts above, the required competencies on the following
services must be realized before engaging into a CHS business:
• Installation – involves identification of technical requirements up to actual
installation.
• Configuration – concerned with the configuration of system and application
software after the installation.
• Diagnosing – determining what is wrong with the computer.
• Troubleshooting – applying actions to solve problem.
• Maintenance – keeps the computer in proper operating conditions.
CAREER OPPORTUNITIES ON COMPUTER
HARDWARE SERVICING
• Computer Repair Technician - responsible in repairing and maintaining computers and
servers. They check input and output devices and maintain networking hardware.
Input devices – mice, keyboards, scanners, webcams
Output devices – monitors, printers, speakers
Networking hardware – routers, wireless networks, fibre optics
• Technical Support Staff - provide support to technology companies’ clients and
customers regarding the use of their products.
• IT Entrepreneur - People having skills and knowledge in Computer Hardware Servicing
and running his/her own business.
• Education Instructor - someone who joins the academe and teaches his/her knowledge
and skills to others.
• Quality Assurance Engineer - The ones who create or devise a system/process in testing
computer hardware products to make sure that the products meet the market standards.
• Hardware Developer - the ones involved with the development, implementation, and
testing of hardware products such as circuits and component systems.
