1) Current-fed inverters require a constant current source input and use a large inductance to change a variable voltage to a variable current. They are sometimes referred to as CSI inverters.
2) CSI inverters use power devices that can withstand large reverse voltages like thyristors, IGBTs, and GTOs. A 6-step thyristor inverter produces a six-step symmetrical current waveform for the motor.
3) CSI inverters require feedback control to maintain an unstable operating point on the torque-speed curve of an induction motor load. Voltage and current control loops are used.
