Assistant Researcher
Developed calibration and analysis software for Raman spectroscopy and Laser-
Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS). In particular, developed software for
remote and in situ detection, identification, and compositional analysis of
explosives, biomolecules and terrestrial and planetary minerals. Includes
Multivariate Analysis (PCA, PLS, PLS2), clustering and classification of
species, and prediction of composition (PCR, PLSR). Capabilities also include
conversion of spectrometer CCD images to Raman and LIBS spectra, spectral
peakfinding and baseline removal. Also designed optical hardware for scanning
LIDAR systems.

Designed and coded an advanced environmental radiative transfer computer
model in collaboration with Dr. John Porter, for use in interpreting satellite

Designed, calibrated and operated a LIDAR system and handheld and automatic
sunphotometers, for the purpose of calibrating and validating MODIS satellite
data. Designed and coded signal processing algorithms for LIDAR data.
Collected LIDAR data in the field and analyzed results, published as part of
doctoral dissertation. Supervised operation and on-site maintenance of an
automatic solar-powered sunphotometer located on a small island in the
Dry Tortugas National Wildlife Reserve, Florida, USA. The device is part of a
network maintained by NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.
Participated in ACE-Asia (Southeast Asian Aerosol Characterization
Experiment). Supervised operation of LIDAR system and sunphotometer
aboard NOAA Research Vessel Ronald H. Brown, during research cruise from
Hawaii to Japan, 13 March, 2001 – 20 April, 2001.
Participated in MOCE-7 (Marine Optical Characterization Experiment-7).
Supervised operation of LIDAR system and sunphotometer aboard NOAA
Research Vessel Ka’imikai-O-Kanaloa, during research cruise near Hawaii,
