Our Mission:
• Raise Awareness: It is important to educate kids
about Cyber-bullying and its impact.
• Talk it Out: Turn a taboo topic into a proactive
discussion.
• Share: Where do the adults fit in?

Target Demographic: Teens
• Teens use the Internet at an amazing, ever-
growing rate
• Teens can abuse and misuse the Internet.
• Parents are often “clueless” about their teens

parents.

Research Shows…
The Forensic Examiner concludes:
• “Cyber-bullying has reached epidemic
proportionswith no end in sight.”
• “Given a child has 24 hour contact with peers,
they are susceptible to perceiving cyberspace
as directly connected to reality.”
• Cyber-bullying can cause severe reactions and
a growing number of children are attempting
to commit “Cyber bullicide”.

Research Shows…
Extending the School Grounds?-Bullying
Experiences in Cyberspace. Juvonen J, Cross EF.
• In a web-based survey (2008) of 1,454 12-17
year old youth – 90% did not tell an adult that
they had been cyberbullied.
• “The most prevalent form of bullying involved
name calling and insults. Password theft was
the next common tactic.”

Online Threats to Youth: Solicitation,
Harassment, and Problematic Content. Andrew
Shrock and Danah Boyd .

which can lead to negative effects such as
“depression, anxiety and having a negative
social view of themselves.”

Students’ Reflections
(questionnaire)
• Almost unanimous that Cyber-bullying is the
same as any other form of violence.
• Cyber-bullying is not the same as schoolyard
bullying because: no need for face to face
confrontation, physical strength isn’t a factor,
many participants, 24/7.
• Confused about adult involvement.
CYBER-BULLING, DR. Zeichner Orit
kibbutzim College of Education
Our Reflections
• We feel that we succeeded in heightening
awareness regarding the severity of Cyber-
bullying.
• We were pleasantly surprised at the students’
willingness to openly discuss their thoughts. They
were articulate and mature in their approach.
• They were fully cooperative, completely
immersed in their work and proud of their
presentation.
CYBER-BULLING, DR. Zeichner Orit
kibbutzim College of Education
Conclusions
• It is crucial to hold proactive discussions
about “taboo” topics with kids. They are
happier to share than we realize.
• We feel that a follow-up lesson would be
beneficial on adult involvement because the
student questionnaire shows confusionon the
students’ part.
• Raising awareness regarding Cyber-bullying is
a big part of the solution.
